While true, the mere fact that I have an education while trying to get into my career has lead me to other opportunities...had I gone into trade and there were no positions open at the time, what would my "masonry" diploma (or what ever you may get) do for me?

Ive had 3 promotions at my current job because of my education...and its all padding my resume further to get the job I want, which in/of itself pays very well

All subjective my friend...the point I think youre making is towards the kids who go in for a simple BA and expect a job out of the gates at 22/23...yeah, not going to happen.

Or how about the time Grabo offered to help Lupul when he broke his arm...Lupul asked him to help paint his porch cause he wasnt able to do much...few hours later Lupul came out to see how Grabo was doing and his porch remained unpainted and Grabo was no where to be found. I totally agree Bruce....I think we had this convo before as I said that about 70% or high 60's..w/e...of students around my age were told you MUST go to university...now theres a ton of us with degrees all competing for the same types of jobs and barely anyone who went into trades...thing is, only a few of us realized that we needed to do a little more ahead of time to be a step above the rest...but I personally know a ton of people who graduated years ago and still have crap jobs they could have attained without 5 years in Uni...its even worse now...a BA is now your highschool diploma essentially...you need a masters or PHD to compete...

Pretty much, especially up here way more money in a trade then a degree.
