I would want a greater sample than just 48 games before he cashes in on the big $$$$.

hence why i said 4 is too much and 2 is too little..

its gotta be inbetween...2 years, 5.25 total...2.25 year 1, and 3 year 2. thats what id try to make happen if I were nonis...he does well after that, then u give him the pay day.

clarkson is worth 5.. remember what chara did to reimer in the playoffs?

notice how the leafs didnt have anyone that was very good at doing that?

thats where clarkson comes in.. the space he will open up for his linemates and crash and banging in the opposition goal mouth will make him worth every penny

the other thing about clarkson is he's a leaf fan.. he's gonna go balls out every game.. and that will push the rest of the guys to up their game

- Dozzer

yeah dion was just out of juice at the end of that series, fraser getting hurt didnt help because he was one of the guys who COULD and WOULD move guys infront. not saying he would have been on at the end, but that would have cut down dions minutes (i feel at least).

clarkson will shine, i just know it.

of coures he needs more than 48 games, i couldnt agree more.

but really, wilson was in charge before this, and he wasnt given a fair chance!

yep his production did slow down towards the end of the season, big time...but, that being said, it was only 48 games, maybe he went on a hot streak towards the end in a full season! we'll never know haha

nonis still has time, and im sure kadri will be signed, franson is the guy im not 100% sold on (who will be a leaf).

- big_dion

unfortunately for kadri the wilson era doesnt help his case.. not when eakins was calling him out frequently for things

kadri just needs to take the bridge deal and move on.. nonis is slow and deliberate and wont fold.. if burke was at the helm it would be different.. but he's not

kadri needs more then a 48 game stint to prove his worth

not to mention the last month of the season he only mustered 3 points

when he was bumped up in the lineup and started facing tougher D his production severely waned.

i am 100% sure Nonis is pointing to this fact during negotiations

- Dozzer

what stats are you looking at?

In May 7 games 1g 3a 4 points
In April 12 games 1g 4a 5 points

final 19 games 2g 7a 9 points = 39 point pace over 82 games.

he tailed off, but not like you make it out

If Subban - in a similar situation - signed for a hit of $2.87mil over two years, Kadri asking for any more is unreasonable. That buys a lot of blow and shawarma.

DUN DUN DUN!!!!!!

" Maple Leafs general manager, Dave Nonis, elected to use a compliance buyout on Grabovski who a) is a very good player; b) can play in any situation; c) drives possession; d) can be effective even when playing with 4th liners and most importantly; e) is better than Tyler Bozak.

What is done is done, I suppose.

What shocks me as much as the buyout is the fact that Grabovski still remains available. Why? For a few reasons:

1. Grabovski could step right into a top-6 role on many teams
2. He has as many or more 5 vs. 5 goals as Taylor Hall, Milan Lucic, Ilya Kovalchuk, Anze Kopitar, Daniel Sedin, Claude Giroux, Jeff Carter, Marian Hossa and Joffrey Lupul, among many others, over the last two seasons.
3. He can help out on the power play or penalty kill
4. He's a very good possession player. Believe it or not, some NHL teams look at advanced stats a lot which makes it even more surprising that no team has signed him yet." - T. Cordell

I'd like to see him sign a two year contract 2.75 in the first and 3.5 in the second.
Didn't Duchene signed a similar contract?

MacLean mentioned on 590 - $2.5 to $3.25 based on length of term. With a group 2 player, this is the ONLY time the franchise has any leverage - so they are going to want to take advantage of it. He said Kadri will not want to hold out nor will his agents and a deal will come sooner than later.
Almost think GM's would collude a bit here and set an unofficial standard. Max of $2M & change based on the player - and down from there.

I hate to be a buzz-kill guys but I think we need to temper the expectations on Clarkson a bit here. I'm hoping he does all the things you guys are saying but damn..... chillllll and let him play a couple games at least. It will soften the blow if he doesn't live up to the expectations.
- markmark

Yeah but I heard what Gary Roberts just said on the radio too - that he is awesome. I refuse to let you be a buzz-kill. I'm going with Gary's assessment (cuz it makes me feel better). Said he hated playing against him and the Leafs got a real leader, a great dressing room guy and Leaf fans are gonna love him.

Here's another Roberts snippet:

"I love the way (Clarkson) plays. I can remember, in Pittsburgh, he was in Jersey, he stood in the face-off cirlce and said 'I want to fight you!'

And I said to him, 'pardon?' and he said 'yeah, you were one of my idols growing up, and I want to fight you.' I said, 'if I was one of your idols growing up, then why do you want to fight me?' And he was smiling when he said it! That's just the kind of guy he is."

You realize they made the playoffs last year only because Bozak was the 1C, right?

Why does HH have to defend the obvious...are we not all on board here with Bozak? I thought we were. He is awesome - sheeesh.

And Grabbo - my opinion once again - he is defective. Something in him is broken - not sure where or what.
