Brookbank is god awful. Just go back and watch game 4 vs LA, and watch how quickly he was chained to the bench...where even Nick Leddy saw ice time on the road, where as with Keith in the lineup, he hadn't.

Brookbank should have been dealt and allowed a younger kid to come up and play a platoon role with Rozsival, who can't be out there every night.

Brookbank wasn't so good in that game against LA (June 6th), but he hadn't played since April 27th so it's not realistic to expect that he would fit into the line-up seamlessly. If Peckham or Kostka were in Brookbank's situation I'm sure they would not have performed as well.

Also, if you're going to bring a kid up to play (i.e. Stanton) you'll want him to be playing instead of sitting on the bench like Brookbank. I'm not opposed to dealing Brookbank, but I'd want to get something useful in return (i.e. veteran 4C).

Agreed.

I don't really get the Brookbank hate. During the regular season, when he was playing semi-regularly, he was fine. Nothing special, but fine. He's the 7th D-man, what do you expect? Better to have the developing youngsters skating regular, more meaningful minutes in Rockford. As a veteran, spot start, role playing D-man I think he works just fine.

We could do much worse for a 7th D-man IMO.

That's about the only reason to deal Brookbank at this point. To bring back or clear room to bring in a useful depth forward and/or maybe create another $250,000 relief in the salary cap.

The extra cap space would be a bonus, but it's not enough to make me want to deal Brookbank.

With 2-3 rookie forwards in the lineup this season I think it will be very important to have a stable defense. Maybe next year a guy like Stanton can be the #6 dman with Rozsival being #7.

For sure. He played more games than Rosi on a team that steamrolled everyone and lost 6 games in regulation with an NHL team on the ice. People are acting like you can't win with him. I bet he plays >35 games this year.

no F'n way, that kid skates A lot better than John Scott, probably like some young guys, don't get it going just right with their first team, then move on and then figure it out & have a pretty good run with their 2nd team. Which would bode well for the Hawks. could possibly happen with Beach also, he'll move on & figure it out. the Hawks will seee that this isn't a short little 48 game jaunt so guys like peckham could be useful when it gets long & rough providing he want to seize the opportunity.
If anyone thinks the Hawks have an easy glide through coming up the next 82, then the cherry flavor taste awful good. Boston could have easily won that Stanley cup also if not for a couple of brain farts in game 6. they beat the sh lit out of the Hawks as evidenced by how many of them have had surgery following the series. They will be the hunted this year with every team bringing their "A" game on a nightly basis. So guys like Peckham and a few others could be useful.

Its always the same story with you. We need 6'3" 220 guys at every position or else every good player we have will get cheapshotted and die. Puck possession and willpower matter a hell of a lot more than size. The Bruins didn't even come within 60 minutes of winning that season, the Hawks never faced an elimination game, they were the best team in the NHL and proved it in that series.

The Hawks were down 3-1 in the Detroit series. That counts as an elimination game. Three of them to be exact.

Look above. Guess I really wasn't clear enough, but nothing in that long run on sentence suggests to me that I was talking about anything other than the SCF

Completely off topic, Crawford's record in the playoffs when the Blackhawks are facing elimination is pretty impressive. If I'm not mistaken he's 7 - 2.

To this day I'd say games 6 and 7 in the Van series were probably the best games I've ever seen him play. He was ELITE for those two days. That Canucks team was much better than the Hawks

You wouldn't be suggesting that I dropped ELITE to mess with the discussion would you?

True, and the 2010/2011 team defense wasn't anywhere near as good as the 2013 team defense.

It was those 2 games, especially game 7, that convinced me he could achieve that kind of play again even after that dreadful follow up season of his.

Stats-wise he did, but I think on the whole, that 10-11 Playoff Crawford is gone.
