what made Lidstrom so good was that he wasnt flashy.. he just stopped offenses in their tracks..... routinely. |

lidstrom is a top 3 D men, im not denying that.
i just didnt ever watch him and think, wow, im lucky, watching the best D man of all time..
when i see crosby, stamkos, or when i was younger watching gretzky and mario...i think to myself...these guys are incredible, the best. never once did i get that watching Lidstrom, he did his job, but never once overly impressed me. |

That deal is fine. He apparently wants a 5-6M + on a long term deal.
I know it isnt my money but that coule F us right over on other contracts |

maybe he shouldnt have bought out grabo, resigned bozak and kept liles

That PLUS negotiations for Kessel.. We give Kadri 5.5M+ for 7 Years.. That price tag for Kessel will pop up to 9+ |

depends on what you are watching for
orr was far better offensively.. and because nobody had ever seen a d-man take the puck himself on the rush before (seriously, orr pioneered that) defenses weren't prepared for it at all.
so of course Orr had massive point totals.. nobody had a defense in place that stopped a d-man on the rush.. if orr would of played when lidstrom did his numbers would of been about the same as scott niedermeyer.. still HoF worthy.. but not insanely inflated |

stevens was far more punishing.. but didnt have the same skill level
on a physical level: stevens 110%
for skill: lidstrom
wanna know what i wouldnt want to play against.. lidstrom and stevens as a pairing
one cracks your rib cage open while the other makes your skills look like bantam level lol |

times were so dif. from hockey generations...
i just dislike detroit, always will, but still lidstrom to me was a good d man, but not the best of all time...and i still think a lot of his success was due to playing on a great team.

I remember an All Star Game a few years back. The score was like 14-12 but Lidstrom was a +7. |

well the argument i pose to that is that he was the only mainstay through all those teams so I could argue that it was him making everyone else better.
Orr was good.. but he was all offense.. he wouldnt be able to do what he did back then today at all. whereas lidstrom's competition was far more difficult in all aspects.
also, lidstrom was the first euro captain to win a cup no?
i consider Orr to be the best offensive d-man of all time, but for the best all around d-man.. i'm going with lidstrom all the way
