yes, but if you had to guess... - Crimsoninja
Playing a round at Pine Valley on an off day, Emery chunks his drive causing him to strain his wrist ligaments and resulting in his over sized Callaway club head to break loose, bouncing off the side of Mason's head.
Leighton signed and starting by December. |

Heres question that was posted by the Devils blog:
How is the Metropolitan division gonna play out?
The Devils Fans were convinced the Flyers would be near the bottom and the Devils would be in the playoffs.
I see it like this:
1)Pens
2) Rangers
3) Flyers
4) Islanders
5) Caps
6) Devils
7)Columbus
8) Canes - FrmRusiaWifGlov
So, all 25 Devils fans think the Flyers are gonna miss the playoffs, eh?
The Devils couldn't score goals last year and they lost their two best players from last year's team.
Unless Cory Schneider can score 30 goals for them and play goal, the Devils will be in the draft lottery next year.

This may be something off the wall, but personally, I have a high level of excitement concerning Ray Emery. It's amazing he's even playing Hockey at this point. He has overcome a serious injury, and never quit. A guy like that has a lot of Karma working for him. And I believe the Flyers will be the beneficiary of that. - MJL

I want Emery to be the starter but I think Mason has the edge. Younger and more healthy. - dingo8urbaby
I'm actually pretty excited about Mason and what he brings, with moving the puck.
I like Emery too, but I just feel like Mason is the more dynamic option. Whether that means he's the more stable option is another story. I feel like the more stable option will be Emery. |

I don't like Montreal and I think the Leafs and Jackets are on the rise, though I have no idea why Toronto would hand Tyler Bozak the contract they did. I would have allowed him to walk and ha e nothing then to keep him.

Many have been using throwing the word "dynamic" around lately. I'm not sure that's the word I would use to describe a goalie. At least not these two unless I see some games stolen by them single handedly. |

That contract Bozaking sucks. Only way I can justify it is if Nonis is paying him as a #2c under the premises that the contract will remain when the cap is over 70mil. That being said, its probably pretty close list. Philly will do alot better this year than last. There will be a surprise team to make/ miss the playoffs as there always is. |

Im not disagreeing with you but that was the general consensus over on the Devils blog.
I actually dont understand how people can claim we didnt get any better this offseason. |

I think its gonna be about a 60-40 split. Whoever starts out strong in the first 1/3 of the season is going to get the bulk of the games unless one of the goalies has an injury or a Bryzgalov type of season. Either or, you cant really pick one. |

I'm just as excited for this team as I was when we landed Pronger and when Homer did his last revamp after the last place season. Both seasons saw us go deep into the playoffs. This is a very exciting team.
As for the Devils, you cannot make up any excuses for their offseason. It's not like they have zero talent and Cory Schneider was a very good pick up but Jagr, Ryder and Clowe are all desperate to average pick ups. Elias isn't a young man anymore. Clowe's season was an embarrassment on a good Sharks and Rangers teams. |

My gut says Emery. He is a little more experienced. I think Mason will have some bumps along the way. |

I agree. They seem remarkably desperate. Clowe, Jagr, Ryder, although I think Ryder is a good addition and I love Jagr they are not going to substantially improve this team.
And the Cory Schneider trade is good for their future goaltending but they seem to have bigger holes in their top 9 and could have used another great prospect.

50-50, through most of the year. There will be an injury, perhaps, and one guy could outshine the other, but overall I think it will be close to even. I like em both though, and can *not* friggin wait for this season to begin...after Claude heals, of course. |

From an outsiders perspective? You severely overpaid for an over-the-hill D-man who's a powerplay/O specialist who can't play 5 on 5 D...when you already had one of the top PPs in the league (and were horrible even-strength.) So Streit likely isn't going to live up to expectations. Sorry.
Lecavalier's signing can be seen as a coin toss. He didn't fulfill a need, he's always been a defensive liability, and one has to wonder if he's going to have the heart to respond in a bigger market.
Goaltending is still up in the air. Mason's been...let's call it "mentally fragile" at times, and Emery has always been injury prone and inconsistent, year-to-year.
Basically, you guys went out and signed a couple of big names--probably to appease the fan base's want to avoid a dedicated rebuild--that didn't address any of the defensive problems from last year. Right now, I'd say the Flyers didn't get better, just because the pieces they added didn't make sense, and therefore it can't really be predicted w/ any certainty how those pieces will perform. Not a great statement when you commit that much money in an off-season... |
