Allright I guess. Working from home as I finally had someone come in and repair the broken pipe to my front outside hose and got a quote to take down the tree threatening to kill me in my sleep.

Off-Topic but i'm looking to make the drive down to Philly for a game this season, just wondering if anyone has suggestions for best place to get tickets, best area for hotel, and things to/see while in the city

1.) Stubhub is not a terrible idea as they do provide some sort of protection if the seller turns out to be a scumbag. I sell my tickets on stubhub occasionally. I think folks offer them here from time to time, but I've never tried that. Craigslist is another option, but a far dicier option, IMO.

2.) Hotel choice probably depends on your budget. You could always stay downtown by the Convention center and take the subway (or a cab) to the game.

3.) If you're a history junky, Philadelphia is your pusher man. Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Constitution Center, Betsy Ross house, Ben Franklin Court, Christ Church, etc, etc. If you don't like history, you could always see the Rocky statue at the Art Museum and tell tourists to stop saying that the City paid for that statue, because it was a left behind movie prop and not a City purchased homage to a fictional boxer.

On a related note (lower price tags, of course), I spent some time over the past couple days fixing up my old bass guitar. It's my first instrument, given to me on my 15th birthday. It's served me well, but isn't in the best of shape (though not in terrible condition either). I have a new one coming today, so it was suggested maybe I should try selling the old one once I've finished the fixing up.

My response? No way. This is one of those possessions I'll never give up. It'll clutter garages and attics, and perhaps contribute to the need to rent storage space at some point. But it's never getting sold.

Of course, I can see why you can't do that with a car. Did you already get a new one, or are you still looking?

Will be getting a new one. Looking at the dodge dart.

If these numbers from SanFilippo are accurate its pretty impressive

"Not including the 2013 draft, since Holmgren took over as general manger, only three teams have had a better success rate at getting draft picks to the NHL than the Flyers, who have had exactly one-third of their draft picks since 2007 reach the NHL.

The only teams with a better success rate are Minnesota (41.7 percent), the New York Islanders (39.1 percent) and Ottawa (34.2 percent). They also rank above the league average in total number of NHL games played by players drafted between 2007-12.

And, they accomplished those stats while being tied for the fewest draft picks in that time period." - ASF

just seeing this and it has probably already been answered, but there are a bunch of hotels right by the airport that are just about a 5 minutes drive (taxi) from the stadiums...

Things to see depends on interests... There is a pretty cool collection of bars in the city.. Frankford Hall is a really cool German Biergarten. There are museums (the Art Museum has the "Rocky steps") and other cool historical sites. If you are interested... as it gets closer to the season or whenever you are coming... PM and Id be more than willing to give you some better ideas...

I would suggest stubhub for the tickets. Their office is in the hotel just down the street from the stadiums.

Agreed with StubHub, especially since the Flyers partnered with them to make it very easy for Flyers STH to list their tickets on there.

Breaking down the current roster moves for every team in the league. Who looks like they have the best shot at the Cup? Personally I think the Pens will be good but have lost a lot of amo, asleep long with the Hawks. The Bruins look scary once again but I do like our team this year. Bruins and Flyers for the east here!

Speaking of our division, I'm confident that the Devils will suck for at least one more season. While I do believe that Cory Schneider is a quality pick up, I feel signing Jagr and Ryder are two desperate pick ups. Good players but not in the least quality role players. I'm wonder how either guy fits in a Devils system.

I also feel the Pens have lost enough role players to make them playoff bound but not Cup contenders. Sure they'll make moves late in the season but right now I feel Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Kunitz and Letang will only be able to do so much. I feel they've been lucky along time and the injury but might be catch up to a couple of these guys.

Rangers are a wild card to me. It will be interesting how they do under a new coaching staff.

Islanders will do nothing. Tavares won't be enough.

As for the Flyers. I think goaltending will be questioned but for the most part, they've covered their basis.

Not being a Richard, but do you really think the Pens and Rags will be, meh?

I think our division will be one of the most difficult in the league.

Caps ended last season on fire. The Devils ALWAYS look like they will suck but end up doing very well. The Rags have too much talent to not succeed, the Pens are the Pens, and anytime you have Malkin OR Crosby (let alone both) you have a shot. The Jackets are really gonna surprise people I think...

with the new pad height restrictions, CSP will be reduced to a shell of his former foam ensconced self. the rangers will be fodder.

I'm on Team "Send Laughton back to Juniors", but I don't think my stance has anything to do with thinking 4th line work will stunt his growth. I think it could help him, for sure.

The fact is, they already have experienced 4th line guys who will contribute and they don't need Laughton, per se.

If he busts down the door and commands a roster spot with his play, then great, I'm on board.

Otherwise, enjoy Oshawa, Scott.

- johndewar

I'm in the same boat. To me, Laughton has to have a defined role on this team or he's better suited for another season in juniors. I don't think it makes much sense to give him 10 minutes a night or sit him in the pressbox when he could be getting 1st line minutes w Oshawa. He's steadily improved the past 3 seasons and he could take another step with one more season down there. Next year Hall will most likely be gone and possibly Read so there will be space for him to make more of an impact. Plus, in this salary cap league, it doesn't hurt to leave him 3 full years of his ELC (starting next season) on a team that always spends to the Cap. Personally, I hope they find a way to dump Mez, resign Gagne to play 3rd line wing, and give Laughton another year of development. Bc, like I said before, it might hinder his growth giving him 4th line minutes when they don't have to.
