At the Town Hall Homer said (in response to a question by King Kenzo) if he plays 1 game it takes his first year of the ELC. So he either makes the team out of training camp or goes back.

- jak521

That sucks. I thought they got 9 games each season.

Luukko asked us if we liked afternoon games and most of us said no and they basically said too bad as we make a lot of money off of them and it is good for families and kids.

Actually, he said that it was NBC's call (especially the 11:30 game) and that the Flyers had the fewest number of no-shows for daytime of all the games because families came with their kids so it was good for growing the game.

BURN HIM!

We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune! We're taking turns to act as a sort of executive-officer-for-the-week. But all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting by a simple majority, in the case of purely internal affairs.

Did anyone ask if Homer was planning on taking the training wheels off of his bike this year?

Guess you missed out on the after party. Homer told me everything. And who knew Luukko could pole dance so well?

I'm a Sixers fan so I would be disappointed. Since 2001, the management of the franchise has been terrible. They were so happy to be good enough to be a bottom seed or just miss the playoffs. That gets you nowhere in the NBA. At least now they have some direction. Albeit, that direction is tanking.
- PhillySportsGuy

Which is a function of how the league structure forces a team to act. Sadly for basketball fans, they are among a whole passel of teams who have the same idea this season.

Luukko was asked about the Devils purchase and his response was that from the Flyers perspective it is in the best interests of all NHL teams for every team to have financially strong ownership and the group bidding on the Devils would do that. With the cap, it isn't a competitive disadvantage to have other financially strong teams. And this ownership group has very deep pockets. It should not affect the Sixers at all, but he doesn't own them, so it's a matter of indifference to him on that count.

Just about everyone in the blog would like to see him get the 9 game tryout. That's about where the consensus stops.

I'd say a majority of people believe he's ready (as do I). Some think he should do another year in Juniors so that can he dominate even more and not 'waste' a year of his ELC.

I think the argument stems from some people believing that 4th line work in the NHL will stunt his growth more than top line work in Juniors.

- PhillySportsGuy

I'm on Team "Send Laughton back to Juniors", but I don't think my stance has anything to do with thinking 4th line work will stunt his growth. I think it could help him, for sure.

The fact is, they already have experienced 4th line guys who will contribute and they don't need Laughton, per se.

If he busts down the door and commands a roster spot with his play, then great, I'm on board.

Otherwise, enjoy Oshawa, Scott.

Exactly the position of Flyers brass. And that is true for any of the young prospects.

On a related note (lower price tags, of course), I spent some time over the past couple days fixing up my old bass guitar. It's my first instrument, given to me on my 15th birthday. It's served me well, but isn't in the best of shape (though not in terrible condition either). I have a new one coming today, so it was suggested maybe I should try selling the old one once I've finished the fixing up.

My response? No way. This is one of those possessions I'll never give up. It'll clutter garages and attics, and perhaps contribute to the need to rent storage space at some point. But it's never getting sold.

Of course, I can see why you can't do that with a car. Did you already get a new one, or are you still looking?

I have a 7 year old and it's not optimal to take him to weeknight games that start at 7pm when he has school the next day.

Those afternoon weekend starts allow me to get him to a game with my blood pressure (and his sleep schedule) intact.

If your location was truncated, after further review TPB have expanded the location character limit to 100. Some (none I noticed here) on the site were getting so long they were interfering with page breaks, so it was decided by management to limit them. Upon further review the original 50-character limit was determined to be a bit short.

I'm sure Laughton will be a good player for the Flyers someday. Right now however, there isn't much of a case for him to be brought on board. If he does play for the Flyers, he needs a role and it has to make sense for both parties. Right now it doesn't make much sense. If someone gets hurt in camp, I would say his chances become increased.

Off-Topic but i'm looking to make the drive down to Philly for a game this season, just wondering if anyone has suggestions for best place to get tickets, best area for hotel, and things to/see while in the city

Me too! I would also like this info. With the half season and knowing the roster wouldn't be appealing to watch for my first game in Philly, I refused to come. This season they've forced the issue.
