Looked like he was NHL ready when he was on a 100 point pace in the AHL.
- robin_steele264

If you waited another year and left him in the AHL he could've been on a 200 point pace. Stupid Oilers

Might have one of the top D groupsin a few years...might...despite what Cloutier says, Klefbom and Schultz arent locks for the Norris this year
- Jaciems

most of us aren't of the same mind set as Cloutier either...do I think Klefbom/Shultz/Nurse will win the Norris?..no idea, the potential is there though...

Might have got a few games in, but after watching his defensive play he would have been sent down in a hurry.

wow, great response to my comment...please, enlighten me as to why you don't think the Oilers will have a one of the better D in the division?..
- yakattack

lol You're implying that every defenseman you have hits their full potential. Ya the Canucks have a bright future up front with first liners Horvat, Shinkaruk, Kassian and 2nd liners Gaunce and Jensen. But guess what, that's not the way things work. Keep drinking your Oilers kool-aid your teams' soft.

no one in Edmonton is winning a Norris as long as Frankie Corrado is in the league.

Flames and Oilers at the bottom for sure, which doesn't hurt my feelings, LA - Canucks - Coyotes- SJ are top four.

No matter how you slice it, LA SJ Van & Anaheim will be fighting it out for the top three playoff spots.

Nurse- Not sure the offensive upside is there, but I'd have him at around 5%

Klefbom- He's a solid all-around guy, But it will take a special year for him to win a Norris, I'll give him about an 8% chance.

Schultz- I'm trying to think how often the Norris winner is a minus player against 2nd and 3rd line players. I'll go 10% based on him maybe having a plus year one day against the big boys.

Sooooo....there's a chance.

Now compare them all to OEL (amongst others) who is only getting better and is darn near the same age, and I'd say you have some long odds on them winning a Norris

Lol.

No one should be surprised the jilted Vancouver homer puts Edmonton last and calls out Shultz as a PP specialist only.

I suppose if you only watched the last 10 games or so where J. Shultz petered out I can see where you might be coming from a little bit... but not really.

A defenseman in his rookie year eating up as many minutes as he did and ending up 12th in the whole league in scoring for a defenseman... yup. He's a scrub. We should trade him to Van right now for a sack of hockey pucks. And as soon as we do he will magically become the best player who ever lived overnight...

You sir, are terribly biased.

While Edmonton's Defense is still short a true elite top pairing Smid and Petry have had surprising success in that role.

N. Shultz and Ferrance have been extremely reliable top 4 defenseman in their careers. .

Belov, while unproven, is widely considered to be one of the top KHL defensemen.

In J. Shultz & N. Shultz, Smid & Petry, Ferrence & Belov you have 6 players that all really should be able to handle top 4 resposibilities on any team in the NHL. Plus we have some 6-7 depth. Plus we have THE best group of defensive prospects in the league knocking on the door on top of that.

The Oilers defense is looking the best it has in years and should only get better and better as the years roll on.

It will have to be by committee.

And a lot really depends on the new coach's system. But that is true of every team.

But going into this season the significant upgrade to our defense is obvious.

Lol I suppose if you don't count the bottom of pairing which typically plays 10-15 minutes of a game sure Calgary has a similar D-corp...My lord, do you even think before you write?

We clearly have a better D than Calgary.

I actually think The Ducks have a better D than you think but still would give Edmonton the edge.

San Hose and Pho, I feel fall into the "product of their system" category. And on paper are only slightly better than the Oil.

The only saving grace is that you put Van lower than they actually are. Probably more because you don't want to jinx them than you actually believe otherwise.

Torts is a very good defensive coach. Very good. Van top 4 is outstanding and their bottom pairing ain't bad either. A little shallow on depth if one of their big 4 gets injured but with Torts behind the bench I see them very close to LA with the potential to be better.

1. LA
2. Van
3. Pho
4. San
5. Oil
6. Ana
7. Cal

Yes, none of those players have a shot. That's exactly what I'm telling you. Pieterangelo, OEL ad Doughty will always be better not to mention Eklblad being drafted soon. They have virtually no shot. The sooner you starter realizing that the sooner you can come back to reality.

That "among others" including people who have already won, or been close to a Norris like Alex Pietrangelo, Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty....
