There was nothing concrete about what was said about ROR in this thread It was peoples opinions that all other 29 GM's checked up to see what the asking price of that player would be, even though they have absolutely 0 use for that player

If a GM seriously thought that he would have 0 use for a player like Ryan O'Reilly, he shouldn't have the job he has. In fact, he probably has an IQ below 40.

Agreed. GM's speak im sure more than people think. It's there job to know who's available for what price etc. How do people think so many trades get done on deadline day? Most GM's know whos available and around what price it will cost

So where exactly would he fit on the top 6 on pitts? By trade deadline they had a top 6 that looked like this Dupius/Crosby/Kunitz Neal/Malkin/Iginla...one could argue that you could put ROR on the wing with Crosby...for far more salary than 2 guys that were absolutely terrific with Crosby...there is no certainty that it would have worked out well...not to mention, they would have had to continue to pay ROR this year and beyond...he's part of a core...he's not an aging player like Morrow and Iginla like they decided on getting

Trades are done when a team is in need of a player, Pittsburgh has no use for ROR, and they won't have a use for him for his entire career, providing Malkin stays true to his word and doesn't bolt to the KHL

Crosby > ROR, Malkin > ROR its pretty simple

You literally are too dumb to get the point arent you? NO one is saying they are or were trying to trade for him. But to suggest that they wouldnt inquire on the asking price is suggesting a GM is not doing there job

Now go away

Why would you EVER inquire about a player you have NO intention of trading for? It would be a waste of time, which has been the point all along... Maybe I should go inquire what a ferriari would cost tomorrow, you know i cant afford it and it wouldnt make my every day life better, and I have no actual intention to getting it

But ROR>Sutter, Morrow. They could move him to the wing. At the right price, O'reilly would definitely be a major boost to the pens organization and I'm sure they at the very least made a call to see what the asking price was.

Why would you ever inquire about a player you have no interest in.....

1. Smokescreen
2. To see what the market is for a certain player/position
3. In case for an injury and you might actually then need/want said player

There. You are proved wrong. You won't accept it and just continue to do this

Good night Vancouver Todd

Skill wise I would definitely agree with this

He's not a rental like Morrow was though, they traded Staal for a reason

This is the only 1 of 3 that make any sense...as for the 3rd point, you dont trade for a player who would be part of your core on the off chance that Crosby or Malkin are regularly injured (which is the main way that you would be able to afford ROR on that roster)

They had no reason to keep someone making that much salary when they had Malkin and Crosby ahead of him, which is the EXACT same thing that would happen with ROR

They all are valid reasons. You don't think GM's throw smoke signals around? That's how a lot of these BS rumors get started.

They offered Staal the exact same money he signed for in Carolina. Exact same. Had nothing to do with $$$

It had everything to do with him wanting to play with his brother, and he also was clearly not happy being the 3rd line Center, do you really think ROR would like to be a 3rd line Center too?

So why would Shero EVER check in to what it would take to get him? Each GM values their players different so getting a feel as to what THAT specific player would be useless unless they wanted to acquire him... its a gm's job to improve their club, its not a gm's job to inquire about absolutely every player that is available...are you saying that every gm in the league inquired about luongos availability? give me a break...not every team needed a goaltender, just like not every team needed a 2nd line center
