it's the cap era. players understand. your responsibilities don't end after you sign that contract. i hardly think any players are all "OMG Leafs demoted Komisarek!! bush league organization!!"

Guys getting demoted isn't going to stop players from signing places. Leafs demoted 2 guys this year and still were able to attract UFA's.

They're going to go where the $ is, where they have a chance to win/be successful and where they think they best fit. I don't think any UFA's are sitting around saying I'm not going to X because they demoted

- burn[insert veteran NHL'ers name]

There is lots of examples of team demoting nhl'ers and following it up by signing UFA's.

I'm not against demoting poor performing players. I think it sends a strong message about the commitment to winning. I'm saying he needs to be given an opportunity to prove himself at the nhl level before being demoted.

it's holding players accountable for the contracts they signed, nothing more.

You;re assuming that they will go back to only 1 outdoor game next year??? I think that even with just the one outdoor game after this year that the cap wont go down much if at all. Ticket price increase are always increasing the HHR, which drives the cap.
- burn

Yes, I'm assuming that there would be only 1 games per season.
I think that the out door game is special and should only have 1 game per year.

They want to expand, why not play regular in Halifax or up in Sudbury or Regina at local rink. Like what Kraft is doing.

You're correct about the HHR increasing.

Sort of, I mean they still get the big bucks and get to play with guys making per year what they do per game!!!! It would be nice to see a clause that they get paid 1/2 or something when they get sent down.

True, but guys recover from concussions all the time. I'm not sure Lyles play is totally due to that concussion.

once bitten, twice shy as he doesn't want to take a hit to the melon.

don't blame him. cut index finger on the table saw once and still issue using a table saw. so I can relate.

Why don't the Leafs and Oil do a trade?h

They have a glut of young guys up front and the Leafs can trade a D...probably Kulemin if the return was favourable....Phaneuf/Kulemin for Hall or something along those lines...

- Garnie

Ya the oilers will trade us a young stud under contract for the next seven years for dion and kuli who are both entering the last year of thier contract.

just assuming. he'd likely cost $5 million-ish. (the assumption is that if he had a lousy year and took a paycut, neither side would want to sign a deal...so im assuming he puts up 20 goals or so and the Leafs wanna bring him back). i would imagine there would be a cap issue there? Kessel is looking at a $3 million raise. Phaneuf could command one too. you''ve got guys like Kadri and Gardiner likely looking at raises a year later, plus Bernier or Reimer. depends where the cap goes i guess.
- DoubleDown

$5 Million for Bolland...no thanks unless he has a MONSTER year. More likely $4-$4.25 million. $3 Million raise for Kessel and a raise for Phaneuf...again, no. Kessel will get $7-$7.5 million over 8 years and Phaneuf will sign for $5.5-$6 million. With the cap going up none of this is an issue and if Kadri, Gardner and Bernier/Reimer all need raises then I am liking the Leafs chances at contending in the near future.

If he ends up having to keep salary yes I agree, but I dont agree that he made the best decision if that happens. I prefer a 2 year cap hit instead of 3.

If you want to get down to it, I would prefer to keep Franson, Kadri and the 3 draft picks instead of Bolland and Kadri, if we have to lose franson because we are out of space.

- senstroll

The one thing you are forgetting in this statement is the possible return for Franson which would be more then we gave up for Bolland. Not that I am wanting to trade Franson but if he is being unreasonable in his demands than see you later.

That's awesome for Dunleavy that he made the NHL, although I'm sorry to see him go because I love the way he calls a game and I was hoping he'd be the Leafs guy eventually.

I'm still not concerned by Kadri, Franson and the cap space. They'll be in the lineup.

No clue. I'm not paying any attention to hockey until the Kadri & Franson situation is resolved and the season starts.

4. Finn, Gauthier, Rielly and Rupert. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that the first 3 make it either.

For sure Reilly makes it. I'd be even more compelled to watch if Gauthier is there. Reilly we'll see in Leafs camp aswell as the pre-season games & he'll be in at least 9 Leaf games b4 they decide to keep him or send him back.
