Sure - but we said 1.1. You agree that eating 1.1 of Liles is better right? You keep saying "eating any of Liles contract is worse" - which it clearly isn't.
Although, this year is perhaps the most difficult cap-wise, so there's a good argument that even the 1.8 is better (if it helps you have more money to keep Franson and Kadri). - The Law

Kadri will get 5.5-6M, most likely back loaded so his qualifying offer in 2yrs is higher. Something like 1.8M and 3.7M, cap hit of 2.75M - Symba007
I like this. |

If he ends up having to keep salary yes I agree, but I dont agree that he made the best decision if that happens. I prefer a 2 year cap hit instead of 3.
If you want to get down to it, I would prefer to keep Franson, Kadri and the 3 draft picks instead of Bolland and Kadri, if we have to lose franson because we are out of space. - senstroll
Why?? You seem to assume that if he retains salary he's desperate.... how do you know that it wasn't part of the plan all along??
I don't think we are out of space. we have 6.2mil and if you retain half of liles $$ that adds another 1.875 mil. 8mil is enough to get Kadri and Franson done. |

Do they have to qualify him at the $$ or the cap hit..... I thought it was the cap hit?? |

This gets lost in all the drama I think. At the time I was pretty happy, cause I knew we had like 20 something mil of cap space.
Now, I kind of wish we went for a lesser UFA option, or traded those picks for someone else to play 3C. Or even play colborne there if it costs us keeping franson otherwise. - pbrsimps
especially if Bolland is a one and done in Toronto, as will likely be the case |

Who would you have signed??
Who would you rather have traded for (using those picks)??
It wont cost us franson. We could have enough cap space to pay Kari 3.5 and Franson 4.5. That is more than enough to get it done. |

I've actually been wondering this myself.
Why does everyone assume he's a 1 and done?
I'm not saying we should keep him long term, Im just curious as to where the 1 and done concept came from for Bollands case? |

Why? - burn
just assuming. he'd likely cost $5 million-ish. (the assumption is that if he had a lousy year and took a paycut, neither side would want to sign a deal...so im assuming he puts up 20 goals or so and the Leafs wanna bring him back). i would imagine there would be a cap issue there? Kessel is looking at a $3 million raise. Phaneuf could command one too. you''ve got guys like Kadri and Gardiner likely looking at raises a year later, plus Bernier or Reimer. depends where the cap goes i guess. |
