I'm there too. I don't think estimating his salary is that hard of a task in this case. He's an RFA and everything seams cordial, there doesn't appear to be a big bad story here. Therefore, I do wonder if a deal is already agreed in principle but there holding the news back. Could be something to do with another trade or posturing by not using up the cap space so that the possibility to match an offer sheet coming for Franson.

Still tough to get both for 6.2 IMO

those arent nearly as good of examples... all of those players had more than one half season of solid production... they arent comparables other than the fact theyre forward and around his age. kadri will get 3 or less i think and franson will get around 3.5... whether they start the season before this happens is up in the air i think

Given Kadri's inconsistency to date, I think Duchene is the more comparable player as well.

Seguin/Hall/Eberle were signed after only 2 years ... but yeah, the more I think about it the more different they seem.

If they eat half of Liles salary that gives them just over 8mil is space. Enough to do Kadri at 3.5 and Franson at 4.5. That leafs only 12 forwards and 6 d though, and zero wiggle room.

If they sent down Liles (no idea if that makes sense), Holzer and Trevor Smith (who the hell is that) and signed Kadri to 3mil and Franson to 4 ...they have around 300K in space.

getting him off completely would be best case, but eating salary to move him is next best option (and that included buyout that has come and gone).

i dont think its possible to move him and full cap hit without "paying" with a significant prospect or pick. eating salary would allow them to not have to pay. i think that cap retention is most logical and most cost effective option.

Kadri 2 years at 3 million per, Franson 2 years at 3.5 million per.
