I think it's debatable. McCabe had some big offensive seasons...but his best were on some bad teams. I tend to discredit those seasons somewhat. I feel like phanuef can be a 50-60 point guy this year on a playoff team.

Phanuef improved greatly as a penalty killer and on his 5 on 5 play under carlyle. He also brings the intimidation factor of the big hit. Overall, based on his play last year I think he's a slightly better all-around dman.

Not really. He had some great seasons on a contending team before the lockout. Even his best offensive season was where the Leafs only missed the playoffs because of his injury.

I went out last night until, idk, maybe 2...so this news was very much welcomed. I didn't quite get only 2 hours but, probably like 4 or 5.

How'd you guys play?

Who replaces Phaneuf for cheaper? No top end dman will come cheaper than his cap hit. And why isnt he good for the C role? Who would have been a better choice when he arrived in TO?
- TonkaPhaneuf

That's what people don't get. Dion isn't overpaid despite what people think.

No disappointment (apart from not being a right fit for the C role).
The reason why Phaneuf should be traded is the fact that 6.5m+ caphit weighs too much for this/next seasons on Toronto's team structure..

At the end of the day it depends where next year's caphit will go to: if it's 66/67million, Phaneuf probably would be best traded or not re-signed, if it's around 69/70, best decision probably would be to keep him.

- MaximusAurelius

But you're not saving money if you have to find a replacement for him. The cap is an issue now for the team because it went down. They should be better going forward.

There are definitely 2 camps on Phaneuf: 1 'Phaneuf is a top15 d-man' and 2 'Phaneuf is an overpaid #2 D-man being played as a #1'.

Liles would have made a better C instead of Phaneuf.

And individually, there would be no better D-man on the team if Phaneuf would be traded; the argument is that the capspace could be better spent on a number of other players to make the team as a whole better.

Teams that win the cup all have high priced defencemen. You gotta pay to contend, and Dions cap hit is right on par, and actually cheaper than other top end dmen in the league.

played fine.. bar was a bit quiet.. never have played waterloo.. but it was a smaller venue so the 20 or so people that were there loved it.. and the bar wants us back on a busier night

so as well as it could go i guess.

also saw my old piano player from my old band for the 1st time in 3 years or so.. he just moved back from vancouver

Isn't the cap supposed to go up like 8M for the 2014-15 season?

Nice...That's good you got asked back for a busier night. I used to play a little guitar, nothing serious, then just stopped. I should pick that back up at some point.

Sidenote: Speaking of small venues, I saw a band I really like at a 600 person venue and it was the first time I went there. The place is where U2 played it's first concert in the US. Small venues kick ass if you get to see a good band there. Only problem is tickets sell fast and then are scalped at a ridiculous high rate

i think he is slightly overpaid.. but not by a lot

i would peg him as a 6million dollar guy

the next contract he gets.. if it goes up from the 6.5.. i'll just think its that much more of an overpayment..

i do also think we are about to watch a transformation in his game.. its like carlyle is molding him into what he ought to be

People are damn near willing to take matters into their own hands to 'discard of' or 'make go away' with Liles. Cement shoes anyone? Yeah he'd be a great captain

The plaster is falling off the ceiling, it seats about 2700 or so.

Roy Thomson Hall is a great venue but it is mostly for Classical, TIFF and Jazz music, would be nice if they had rock concerts in there.

Edit: Massey Hall is under going an $8 million revitalization of it.
