just assuming. he'd likely cost $5 million-ish. (the assumption is that if he had a lousy year and took a paycut, neither side would want to sign a deal...so im assuming he puts up 20 goals or so and the Leafs wanna bring him back). i would imagine there would be a cap issue there? Kessel is looking at a $3 million raise. Phaneuf could command one too. you''ve got guys like Kadri and Gardiner likely looking at raises a year later, plus Bernier or Reimer. depends where the cap goes i guess. - DoubleDown
We have 2 mil coming off from buyouts at the end of this year..... the cap is going up. I think they'll be able to sort it out. |

48 games only, bridge contract, 2.85 per for two years, have to play hardball here and not over pay for half a season of success. - LeafMan
I am thinking that this is pretty close to what both players should and will get. I don't think Kadri will get more than Bernier and if they can get Franson at this or just a little more say topping out at 3.2 per and each sign a 2 yr deal...that would be fair. If they keep progressing in the next 2 yrs they will get their big contract as the cap will have risen close to 15 million more by then and leafs will be in good cap shape. Nonis is taking good care of the cap and will pay players that deserve it. |

We will have a 20 man roster, kadri signed at 3M and Franson at 4M. The end |

Just like this year, they'll be a lot of cap room but yes, it will disapear fast.
There will also be a lot of options. Reimer may be traded by then. Kulemin and fraser may not be affordable for what they bring to the table. They may all have to be replaced with younger cheaper players.
And just maybe, they'll still be a healthy debate going on with what to do with liles. |

20 man roster makes the most sense, their farm team is 20 mins away...if that. No need for guys t sit in the box when they could be playing. I'm good with this! |

Mike mentioned this so it makes the most sense. Only sad part is i wish we could of ran a 21 man roster with ranger in it, but as of now with our situation, we cannot have ranger, holzer, smith in the lineup which we need them in the minors to be in line with the cap and to pay kadri and franson. |

Will be kind of hard to fit him in, if franson and kadris caphit together is 7M+... unless you have someone else in mind to drop down?? |

I hope he is traded, but i doubt he will be demoted. I know hes not a carlyle favorite but he would still be good to have in the lineup. I know we have too many PMDs, regardless he is decent enough. If he has a good camp, over guys like fraser or ranger, then obv he will stay. Gardiner, gunner, franson(when signed), phaneuf is written in already. |

Lots can happen from now through camp. But after watching Ranger in person for over a dozen games last year...if he decides he wants to play in the NHL again, he will push someone out. I know it was the AHL, but he was the best defenseman on the ice for both teams for most of the games I attended.
Edit: Including Gardiner. |

and the salary cap is going back up next year - Symba007
but how many out door games will there be after next year?
I think this is one major cash grab and will artificially inflate the cap for one year and down the next.

Indeed.... Silly seeing people complaining about the Ranger signing, "it's going to cost us Fraser". Gez I like fraser, but if getting the better play in the lineup costs us a less talented play so be it. |

You;re assuming that they will go back to only 1 outdoor game next year??? I think that even with just the one outdoor game after this year that the cap wont go down much if at all. Ticket price increase are always increasing the HHR, which drives the cap. |
