Based on the moves so far, this would be dumb. If he is moving Liles he has to find a way to get him off the books completely - senstroll
Why?? it frees up the cap space needed, and it wont cost them futures??
IMO "paying" someone to take him and his full contract would be dumb. |

I already went over it and dont feel like crunching the numbers again, but if he retains salary for Liles, it was a better move to compliance buyout liles and regular buyout Komi. the hit is only 2 years insted of 3.

I don't think so.
EDIT:
Komi regular buyout cost 2.16mil +1.16Mil
Retaining as much salary he could (1.875mil) saves money this year, when they need it. |

ST we talked about this and together we concluded that if he eats more than 1.1 of Liles contract then, in hindsight, it's a bad decision. If he eat 1 million/yr of Liles it still works out better ...especially for this year.
Edit - regular buyout on Komi is 3.3 milly in cap space. |

I think Kadri and Franson are simply holding out just so we will have something to beat to death for the month of Aug before the rookie camp starts.
Glad I am going on vacation next week, as I am sure there will be a least 20 more blogs and countless posts about how much Kadri and Franson should/should not make, and how many ways the Leafs can get rid of Liles....
I hate this time of year.... |

you're not surprised that I don't think doing something that seems to be worse is a bad thing??
The most you can retain is 1/2 with is 1.875mil.... which is less than the Komi buyout, and thus more beneficial. the less they have to retain the better obviously, but based off worst case (1/2 retained) it's better off, and gets even better the less they have to retain.
So yeah, I think so. |

right just for this season its a benefit and only if its 1.1 or less, but I would suspect it takes 50% so 1.8
Komi buyout is 2.1 and 1.2 roughly.
to me is better than 1.8, 1.8, 1.8

We need more cap space now. How does having less space make it better? Next year the cap goes up. Next year the other buyouts come off. Years 2-3 aren't as much an issues as right now. Doing what gets you the needed cap space now is better. |

so basically 300K savings this season..for an extra year at 1.8. I dont think thats better.
If 300K is a cap breaker Nonis is doing something wrong.
Its ok to disagree with the moves the leafs make, mistakes have been going on for decades.

This is what has gotten the leafs into this situation in the first place. No vision past right now.. ffs, how do you know that 1.8 wont matter? if you are running a business off what might happen you will fail more than succeed. |

Sure - but we said 1.1. You agree that eating 1.1 of Liles is better right? You keep saying "eating any of Liles contract is worse" - which it clearly isn't.
Although, this year is perhaps the most difficult cap-wise, so there's a good argument that even the 1.8 is better (if it helps you have more money to keep Franson and Kadri). |

If he ends up having to keep salary yes I agree, but I dont agree that he made the best decision if that happens. I prefer a 2 year cap hit instead of 3.
If you want to get down to it, I would prefer to keep Franson, Kadri and the 3 draft picks instead of Bolland and Kadri, if we have to lose franson because we are out of space.

I think a couple guys counting on the cap now might get sent down or something
Still tough to get both for 6.2 IMO - robin_steele264
Really shouldn't be. 3mil each for 2 years, prove it wasn't a fluke. |

Any way JML can fake a concussion or something and we stash him on LTIR? Wouldn't that be nice... |

I'm still of the opinion that if Horcoff can be traded then Liles can be too. |

Kadri will get 5.5-6M, most likely back loaded so his qualifying offer in 2yrs is higher. Something like 1.8M and 3.7M, cap hit of 2.75M |

who needs a fake? Rogers owns the Leafs and the Jays. I'm sure there are plenty of baseball bats lying around. |

This gets lost in all the drama I think. At the time I was pretty happy, cause I knew we had like 20 something mil of cap space.
Now, I kind of wish we went for a lesser UFA option, or traded those picks for someone else to play 3C. Or even play colborne there if it costs us keeping franson otherwise. |
