I would also include the Devils in that group!
Chico is SUCH a homer.

Chico is beyond a homer. Living in the nyc area I have heard him for most of my life. He is insufferable.

I know he's a Buffalo icon and a HOFer, but I can't say this upsets me. Just my personal preference (and my wife's, and my parent's and in-law's), the guy has one hell of an annoying voice. I know you Buffalo people love him, and I think that's great. Personally, I have literally muted games when all I can get is the Buffalo feed.

Every team thinks there guy is better....but in reality there is no better than RJ...

If you take away the Spinner Spencer fro he pretty much looks exactly the same. See what a good scotch will do for you!

Thank god its not sylvester who is taking over. Listening to the guy is worse then watching paint dry. We all love you rj but at some point just like van miller you have to call it quits brotha. The lafontaine calls as a kid made me love listening to him as well as may day. Over the last couple seasons he has blown a lot of calls and has gotten progressivly worse. I still would rather have him over anyone regardless.

I hope the Sabres can win it all by the third year for RJ. I don't think the youth movement will be painfully long. This coming season will train them, the next will be a playoff entrance, and the third could be a cup run (With the right assets, of course).

Personally, if they do win the cup, I think the right thing to do would to let RJ hoist the cup first because I think he is the true Buffalo Sabre that has given so much to the team, the city, and the fans.

i think you are way overvaluing what we have.. i hope you are right but still don't see a cup run out of what we have.. we still lack that star elite scorer. The only thing that might work is if Vanek stays, armia is similar to vanek and Grigs meets his potential.. otherwise i don't think we have enough

Then there's the scenario in which we tank and get two top 5 picks.

Ekblad and McDavid?

as great as McDavid might be he will not be a key piece of a cup contender in his first year.. which is where he will be your scenario..

True.

The Sabres fan in me really wants RJ to see the team win it all. It's a longshot, I know.

I'm just really (frank)ing optimistic and I believe anything can happen.

I let go of the idea that we will hear Rick make the cup winning call. Its sad, but its the reality of being a Buffalo sports fan. Just have to appreciate having Rick for who he is.

I know it's 3 years from now, but it's going to be tough listening to him call his last game.

I hope the Sabres have the foresight before that season's schedule is released to request from the league that it be a home game.

Because I want to hear nothing but classic RJ calls reverberating through that arena for a 1/2 hour after the game is over. Not to mention it needs to be a big deal (on-ice ceremony, etc).

Maybe you should let Rip Simonick lift your imaginary cup first.

I'm just bustin chops. Both Rick and Rip deserve their place in Sabres history.

Unfortunatley I don't see the Sabres winning much of anything in the next 3 years, but it would be magical if the last game RJ called was a cup win.

I don't think the Flyers guys are that much better. I deal with them because they're the feed I get. I'd prefer their radio team, honestly.
I really enjoy the Wild, Washington, and (somehow) Florida's announcers. To me, RJ sounds like he has a mouthful of marbles, and sounds like some odd chicken-cat hybrid who's dying whenever announcing a Sabres goal.
