In general, my policy has always been the same as yours but after watching what $800 gets you from an electrician, I figured I'd give it a go. Worst case scenario, it fails inspection and I've wasted an hour of my life...

Never installed a breaker though.

As far as basic wiring, outlets, switches, even 3-way circuits... pretty straightforward.

Breaker is pretty easy to install. Don't understand why he doesn't have the space in his electrical box for one. I have a 200 AMP and I have a crap load of space. Maybe his box is only 100 AMP?
