Both Vanilla (I liked him in That's My Boy, just saying), and his listeners wanted to surf the wave of rap music that was so popular with lower classes, without being looked down on their peers for listening to black music. Like it or not, racial issues had a lot of influence in the shaping and popularity of music genres.
