It's nice to see Frolik wearing his Blackhawks jersey on his day with the Cup.

you arent talking about the beatles my michelle are you?

The Beatles song is just "Michelle". "My Michelle" is Guns n Roses, and not one of their better songs, IMO.

b) it was written for the Blackhawks.

No, one was by a manufactured crappy numetal band that got unnecessary radio play and was considered a hard song by many a "bro." Hatebreed, prior to the 3rd album, actually was a pioneer of the "metalcore" era of the mid-90s/early 200s.
- jmatchett383

Metalcore?? Ha ha.....Hatebreed never pioneer'd a thing. All they did was get more mainstream attention. Nice try though....Ohh and Jamey Jasta being on Headbangers Ball led the kids to them more than touring with Slipknot.

I think it's pretty funny that Chicago plays Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name of" when a penalty is called against them. Then the song gets cut off right before the "Fu(k you I won't do what you tell me."

Ministry - "Keys to the City" should be on the list as Al Jourgensen recorded the song as a gift to Rocky Wirtz!!

How about Electric Eye; not sure that gets play at any arenas but it should.

- HawkintheD

Hell yeah, lots of Priest songs that dont get enough love in the arenas. How about "Painkiller" for an intro song? Haha, if the players didnt get jacked up from that I'm pretty sure the fans would...or at least i know i would.

Well, let's see...him being on Headbangers ball was after their tour with Slipknot. All the mall kids came to school the day after Hatebreed talking about how they stole the show, so I think that had something to do with him getting offered the gig. I don't think he gets the gig if they stick to playing in 1200-person venues.

If they weren't one of the pioneers of "metalcore" please tell me who was.

How about an intro song when The Nucks come to the United Center. The chorus of Elton John's The B!tch is Back.
- paulr

The Trammps "Burn Baby Burn" may be a better fit.

The Doors "Light my Fire" close.

Hendrix "Fire". The lyrics almost seem made for the Nucks.

BOC " Burnin for You". Nuff said.

Of course, now that they are prosecuting the burners maybe Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire".....

I would be shocked if he wore his Blackhawks jersey. My money would be on him wearing street clothes like Bolland did.

If anyone is going to do a "Buff" it's going to be Vik. He didn't leave on the best of terms did he?

For sure I could see Stalberg sporting his Nashville jersey on his day with the Cup. Vik always felt he deserved more, we'll see now if he deserved it or not (my guess is not).

I actually have some weird feeling that Stalberg is gonna have a great year (for his standards). Im thinkin he could push for 20-25 goals and somewhere around 50-60 points and really surprise some people. Maybe its cuz the Preds just dont really have many offensive options, and now he will want to exploit his opportunity with new found motivation.

True, but they don't play a style where they need have any big guns. Stalberg will replace Erat who was traded to Washington. I would say Erat is better that Stalberg and he was a 20/50 type guy with the Preds. We'll see how Stalberg does. I wish him all the success in Nashville, but no matter what happens there he would have never been a top 6 forward in Chicago.

First off, I think Metalcore is one of the stupidest names for a genre of metal, and that's saying something....Metalcore came way before Hatebreed, and the foundation was set before they started to record.

Where Hatebreed was lucky, was that they became mainstream.

Before "Metalcore" was the crossover that happened in the mid eighties. With bands like DRI and the Bad Brains. But that consisted of punk and thrash. If you want me to suggest a few bands that actually pioneer'd said Metalcore....Look to (early 90's) Sepultura or Pantera. But because they were metal bands, lets go to the punk side of things and say Victory Records. Or, Integrity, Strife, Earth Crisis, Converge....All of which started playing that style at least five years before Hatebreed......................Hatebreed became more popular to the masses, and not just because of a Slipknot tour. Maybe that's what happened to your classmates, but the major label releases and Wal-Mart selling the albums had the bigger impact. Ohh and the hosting of Headbangers Ball did have something to do with it. Not initially, because when he hosted that show, and you're right, Hatebreed had already made it. But it still helped in broadening the Hatebreed fan train......

Thanks for the conversation. Always good to talk this type of music, especially on a Blackhawks thread!! Cheers.

I Love LA is a great song. Chelsea Dagger, on the other hand, is universally hated by everyone but Blackhawk fans.

I'm sick of Chelsea Dagger, but "I Love LA"? Decent song, but not for hockey.

I'll agree that it's a horrible name, but I don't want to call it "the growly metal version of hardcore." I'll give you Integrity for sure, but ExC and Hatebreed were about 2 years apart. I think All Our War came out in 1992 and Under the Knife was recorded in 1994 (same year as Halo in a Haystack from Converge). Strife blows (not a defense, but they do).

I don't think you can take a band like Bad Brains, DRI, or Cro Mags and compare them musically to a band like Hatebreed any more than you can compare the Ramones to Rancid. They're along the same lines, but there's a few leaps and bounds that differentiate them.

And yes, Hatebreed did kind of get lucky when they toured with Slipknot and then with Slayer.

And for the record, aside from a few select releases (most of them being from Blood for Blood), Victory Records and its CEO blow.

I wasn't trying to compare the Bad Brains to Hatebreed. I was saying that the punk crossover to metal had been happening for years. It was developing without the Hatebreed sound. At one time I did like Strife's In this Defiance album, that was all they had. Victory records had a few cool releases. I could careless about their CEO.

I'm a metal guy, but started with my punk rock. I've been listening to both forever. To pin a label on any one band and say they started it is pointless....Unless of course you talk about Napalm Death and grindcore!! Ha ha.

+1

Was thinking the same thing. Was in 8th grade I think when their first album came out. Wasn't bad, but then the original singer left after the first album and his fatter replacement came on board for Flirtin with Disaster. I think the album title says it all...
