I'm contemplating trading Nuge for Baertschi + in a fantasy league i'm in on yahoo...its a dynasty league so we keep the rosters...but he doesnt have enough to add in to make the jump in value...thats literally his best prospect to give...thats the problem

Dubnyk's not doing a poor job just because he can't keep the team's spirits up in games where they're barely mustering 20 shots and allowing 35 (like every game).

It's misplaced aggression to blame Dubnyk for letting in 3 goals when facing 35 shots. Many you feel like the team will never have the confidence they need without an above average, possibily elite goalie that will night in night out put the team on its back but A) I don't think we need that and B) I think we'd go a lot further improving the roster such that we don't need an elite goalie.

If we reach the point where we're allowing 28 shots a night, out-shooting the other team, and losing, then its time to improve goaltending. But the defense sucks, the possession numbers suck, and the effort/maturity sucks, and getting an elite goalie to inspire players doesn't seem like a prudent way to address those problems.

if this Oilers team does not catch fire eventually it would have to be the 1st time in history a team that blessed in the draft did not eventually show up..its not possible really, Edmonton this year will get in pretty easy is my guess

Pretty easy? how so? they added Perron and thats literally not much difference...they already had offense...the only thing that they can look forward to is their coaching change...it may not be this year...I think it'll be next year

Do you think the defense is improved enough to not let that many shots through this year?

They better get consistent then. No more of showing these flashes of a great team, then tank a bunch. Hopefully the new coach gets them playing every night.

Nope. Pretty much all of them are 3 4 and worse. They need a legit 1 2 guy.

Certainly not convinced it's dramatically better by any means.
Alot of questions.

I think ference is a solid, dependable addition that knows how to win and is an edmonton boy.
Mact also inproved depth which we haven had for years. Even if many of said depth guys are question marks, we are improved.

Alot needs to go right, but i think the furthur maturation of the kids in terms of wins is bigger than any 1 addition/subtraction.
The future with klefbom/marincin/schultz etc looks pretty bright, but for now i think there's a chance the d can be solid enough to give dubs an opportunity to succeed.

Not getting one of those without giving huge, unless one of the prospects can do it. That takes time though. A lot of people here are high on Klefbom, but he hasn't done poop in the NHL. Time will tell, but it doesn't help them this season.

I never said it would go over well with the Oilers management if they lost yet again...I'm just not confident enough in them yet The change in coaches will tell it all...Toronto fans brag that they had Eakins developing guys like Kadri, its funny because they haven't done well over there with prospects other than him

IMO the oilers would have greatly benefited trading Yakupov for Seth Jones straight up, I think that both clubs would have benefited actually...
