The money won't work. Flyers are always up against the cap. If they trade for a high priced player they need to unload salary. I'm sure Vinny, Streit and Hartnell will all become a financial burden in a couple years.
Flyers are pretty set at goalie for next season. I was thinking more in terms of trading prospect for prospect. You guys giving up a goalie. Flyers giving up a skater. Flyers best forward prospect is Scott Laughton. He's NHL ready and a good two way center. At worst he's a 3rd line center who can match up against top lines while also putting in 40pts. At best he's a second line center who plays good two-way hockey and can put up 60-65 pts. - PhillySportsGuy
good point, I really thought at the time it was gonna be Hartnell, Couturier and a draft sent back our way..Hartnell as the salary dump for us to take to open space for the Flyers to sign Miller ..I was really surprised the Flyers were willing to do another bandage job in the nets for one more year..really this goalie issue is like a grey cloud over the heads of Flyers fans, they almost accept getting Emery as an ok solution..I really think the Flyers let an opportunity slip out of their fingers when they went and signed Vinny instead..but who knows, next year will seal Homer's fate if Emery crashes.. |

Goaltenders in general aren't worth as much as they once were...Schneider is proof of that...the trade market for goaltenders is set...Hemsky should be enough for miller (miller has not been playing as well as Schneider so i dont see why it would be Hemsky AND a 1st which would be more than Schneider got the Canucks) I suppose it depends how late a 1st it would be but the Oilers 1st would be most likely in the top 10...no chance of it being more than Hemsky...maybe Hemsky, Gagner for Vanek and Miller...Millers just not worth a lot, teams know that they're wanting to move him...Remembering they wanted Vanek in a bad way years ago... |

Can't say with any certainty that he is though...
I can't say with certainty that he won't either. I guess we'll see. - jochfr
From pre-draft reports, just about everyone agreed that besides Jones, Risto was the most NHL ready dman.
He'll get the 10 game tryout to prove it though. A lot of first round defenseman don't even get that far in their first season. |

well worst case we got the Finnish Freight Train
like Ek said, GM's see things differently, we just got to trust our management that they will do the right thing, no point in panicking either way, I hope he makes the team, I wanna watch this guy this year |

They have to give him the 9 games, or else they won't see what they have at all because he'll be overseas...so he has basically demanded to play or else they wont see what they have for another year at the very least |

Obviously this is coming from a Canucks fan but what exactly has Schneider done to warrant all of this love? He has yet to prove he can be the work horse Miller is. Granted he has a huge upside but I never understood all the love for him. Miller gets more than Hemsky and like I said before there is no way Miller straight up for Hemsky makes sense for the Sabres at all |

let me ask you one thing before you shoot me down...what is having a real #1 goalie in Philly that can bring them all the way possibly worth to you? |

Miller? Nothing too old and contract status sucks. Flyers need to fix their D before anything. |

They really like Mason. Giving up Couturier for a goalie who is starting to decline isn't a smart move. Hartnell is still a nice player and aside from last year, very consistent in putting up 20-30 goals and 40-60 points (depending on who he plays with).
The primary problem with the Flyers is that they don't let things develop. They always need to win NOW. When they had that embarrassing series against the Sabers with Bob, Boucher and Leighton, management told Homer he needed to fix the goaltending situation NOW.
Homer didn't have much youth to trade (Most of it used in the Pronger deal) so he opted for the best available FA. After signing Bryz long term, there was no reason to keep Bob at such a high cap hit (He hit most of his performance bonus').
In the end, the whole problem is that Flyers management always wants to win now and forces the GM to make moves that will help them win now. |

The only way I'd be for this straight up is it gets Darcy fired. So Miller and bye bye Darcy for Hemsky I could get on board with that |

I mentioned that above about the capspace etc..but he is far from too old and you know it, you would have to pay for a premium like him..you want a top goalie for a change??..you have to give back..as for your D, agreed, still dont get the Vinny signing, its not like you guys lack forwards |

No, this is coming from a hockey fan in general...I grew up watching the Canucks, and I've made a point to watch what other teams have done, so what miller has played more games...in recent years, he hasn't played up to snuff to warrant a kings ransom for him, he has been playing sub par, GM's are not going to look at what Schneider got traded for and then go...hmm maybe we'll trade MORE for a guy that has played worse than him in the past few years...? Contract aside, Luongo is around Millers age and Luongo has played better than Miller in the past few years also...but ok, keep thinking that you can get a kings ransom for him just because i'm a canucks fan (which means i have watched the goaltender i am commenting on and was pissed that he's now gone)
Have fun playing Schneider an insane amount now btw When he beats Miller (if he is not moved before the season starts) Maybe you'll start seeing what others have seen for years over here |

From what Homer said, the Flyers think Vinny is still a very good player. They said "when Vinny became available, we changed our off season plans to include signing him."
I don't like the signing, but it does allow the team to move Schenn to wing (Which I don't like) and gives them very strong depth. |
