Here's an interesting statistic for you:
From March 17 to April 27 - Dubnyk's last 15 games (14 starts) - he was 7-7-1 with a .924 sv% and a shutout. In 5 of those 7 losses the Oilers only scored 1 goal. He actually played MORE clutch down the stretch than the rest of the season.

The problem with Edmontons goalie situation isn't the numbers, its the time.
I can't even count how many times Dubnyk let an awful goal in at the worst possible time. Oilers management is looking for players who put in a consistent effort, and Dubnyk isn't what the doctor ordered for MacT.
Despite the numbers, Ryan Miller is the superior goalie to Dubey. As for the trade...
Miller's value may have dropped, but it's not like Hemsky's has suddenly inflated. I'd say a mid/high level prospect plus Hemsky minus half his salary is fair. When Miller eventually gets traded, it won't be for the King's ransom that Sabres fans want. |

I just want him gone for at least a 2nd, idc what else the Sabres get. |

I don't remember countless awful goals. And it's always the worst time when your team isn't scoring. I do know that when he let a weak goal in, he rebounded nicely. I'm not saying he's the answer, but let's see what he brings this year. I'm confident that he can be a solid number 1. No need breaking the bank yet. |

How about 6 in one game, all one right after the other?
Or how about Nashville and the floater from Legwand?
Oh yeah Los Angeles with about 50 seconds to go in the game and we lost?
Vancouver when they scored with about 3 minutes to go in the game to tie it, followed by letting one in in overtime?
I could go all day brother. |

Signing a career backup to clearly play behind dubs would suggest otherwise.
At least for now.
As far as the hemmer deal, i dont think too many of us think the two are equal value.
But considering salary, numbers, age etc we just wouldnt be well served using other valuable assets to acquire miller who's just another marginally smaller question mark.
Id throw in something else decent along with hemsky, but certainly not a ton |

Hardly a breakdown in either.
Maybe slightly poor defense on Vancouver's game, but nothing out of the ordinary
And LA? It was Carter streaking down the wing! What do you mean a complete breakdown? |

Well yeah. I don't think you will get anyone to say Dubs has a bigger up side than Schneider. It doesn't mean that Dubs can't be a solid keeper. |

I heard he did.
Not confirmed though.
Either way, he offered less than our first pick, which suggests he may have been looking, but not willing to pay a kings ransom.
Which suggests to me he considered giving dubs some competition, but at the end of the day was relatively comfortable

You can break it down any way you want but it's clear MacT isn't impressed with Dubnyk's performance. He wants a more complete goaltender - one that can be relied on when the going gets tough.
I don't hate Dubnyk but it bothers me how confused he was with MacT's decision to find another goalie. He knows he has to play better. It will go a long way for the fortunes of this hockey club |

I dont think any of us believe dubs is ever gonna be truly elite.
But he aint the problem. The numbers with the group in front of him prove this.
How many less than elite goalies have won cups?? Tons.
Hes clearly capable of being a competent goalie with or without a stellar group in front of him |

I dont anythings clear per se.
The only thing we know for certain is that he signed a lesser goalie to back him up.
Everything else is guesswork. |

I'd bet you that if Dubnyk plays similar to how he did this season without a significant amout of improvement, he won't be resigned. |

I think that if the D isn't improved greatly, they will need an elite goalie, and none of them are available. |

They blatantly turned the puck over in the neutral zone and our forwards were caught which gave carter time and space late in the game.
Of course it woulda bern nice for a big save.
Great shot and hardly his loss. |

Huge 'if'.
Far more depends on team success.
His numbers could get us in with a better, more experienced group in front of him.

Debunking Dubnyk's mythical parade of Letdowns:
11 of 19 games where Dubnyk was under .920 in sv% we had 2 or fewer goals. In 6 of those 11 we had 1 or 0 goals.
In 3 of the remaining 6 games, we won. Also, of the remaining 6 games, he had a better sv% then the other goaltender in 3 but we got significantly outshot.
Of the remaining 3 games, we got points in one of them.
The Remaining 2 games:
San Jose 6-3 Dubnyk 11/17 (.647), pulled after 1 period.
Minnesota 5-3 Dubnyk 30/35 (.833) 1 PPG allowed. Team outshot 30-19
Of these two, I'll say that Dubnyk blew the San Jose game. 6 goals (3 on the PK) is brutal for any team (two in the last two minutes of the first), but Dubnyk shanked it.
The other one I don't see as that bad a stat line considering how the rest of the team played.
I literally only see one Loss that falls squarely on Dubnyk's shoulders. |
