Only downside to Vanek is his amazing ability to find himself injured quite often...otherwise he'd an excellent player...he reminds me much of hemsky but vanek is better
- annoyance_101

no kidding
Vanek at bare minimum we will get a 1st rounder, but i am sure we will get more still

100000000000% agreed, the Oilers youth is amazing..I like what we have but they got the studs for sure..the only thing I argued was for Miller being way better than what they got now in nets..but for the fans here to argue our prospects are more deep is just a pride issue
- French-Connection

well Miller certainly has far more experience...but as I said yesterday, I don't put as much importance on goaltending as I used to...its more about a team system and coaching style...I think we'll see Lundqvists numbers go down a LITTLE comparing to what we're used to...AV doesnt like guys diving (to stop a puck from hitting the net) Canucks have dove, but not for an actual reason other than to draw a penalty, and I think that sort of system that AV recommends, will hurt Lundqvists numbers...the amount of shots getting to the net are going to go up for the Rangers

Yep, i still do not understand why they're not trying to work a trade around Vanek and Hemsky...it would benefit both teams...both injury prone...both great players...I think Oilers would have to add a little more but not a whole lot...maybe a 2nd

Vanek is not injury prone. I don't know where some of you get this notion.
The man plays injured , yes , but that is because he is one of the NHL's best net front men in the entire league.
And that is not up for debate. That's a fact!
The man takes a beating game in and game out. He is not a floater unlike others.
Vanek I want to retire a Sabre.

the cap hit, we dont want it..we can get way more than Hemsky and a 2nd for Vanek..best to wait till the deadline or a better offer, that would be a total ripoff for the Oilers..I would rather get the bare minimum, a 1st rounder at the deadline than do that

That is the main problem, he plays injured, he reminds me of Kesler in that respect, I certainly have respect for that sort of player...he's a very good player when he's healthy...I have nothing bad to say about that guy...he's good...certainly wasn't trying to say otherwise...

Miller to Edmonton?
Possible, given the rise Edmonton is sure to make with the young talent coming into their own in the next 2 to 4 years. A Stanley Cup Run is most likely in their future.

The Return?
Hemsky? Sure, I can see the Sabres putting Hemsky on Grigs' wing.
Hemsky + a 1st rounder? Not likely given the immediate upgrade in net Miller gives Edmonton, they'd be looking at a 24 to 29 pick overall most likely.
Try looking at Yakupov, although Edmonton may not be willing to part with him, it's what Buffalo would most likely be targeting, a scoring winger.

The secondary pieces?
Take a stab at it, from Buffalo you'd most likely be looking at a d man, 3/4 or a couple of D prospects.

not saying hes injury prone..and this guy is one of the best snipers in the league..but he is gone, if you think he will retire a Sabre you are whistling in the dark pretending, hes as good as gone..he has no desire to stay here

Only issue is Oilers 1st is bound to be at least top 10 this year I would say...unless Eakins really changes their style quickly...but Vanek would be worth that alone for sure...Hemsky is no slouch either though

If the Oilers move Yaks it will be for a top 2 Dman.

I picked Edmonton this year to be a lot higher than that..I highly doubt Edmonton comes after Vanek anyways..a top contender will get him

agreed, we would have to throw in Myers in some sort of a monster deal..I would not really want to do that like most Sabres fan that have given up on him

So Hemsky and Yakupov for 1 year of Miller? Seems fair...

Now a trade with these two teams seems a little more plausible when you add some more big fish.

WHAAAATT? A bottom 10 team with a bad defense, little depth and a size problem becomes a cup contender because we add Ryan Miller. No way our first is that low.

no........
If a deal like this were to be seriously looked at, look at a signing extension by Miller prior to, one of the beefy D men taken 2013 1st round (most likely Zardov), also look to Pysyk/McNabb/McCabe and perhaps even a McBain type move as well.
Throw in the 2014 1st from Buffalo and I can see a deal at least being considered.

Buffalo would be looking to bolster upfront scoring, they have NHL roster D depth as well as a decently stocked prospect pool combined with what's sure to be a high 2014 1st rounder to play with, any type of combination can be hashed out I would think.
Edmonton would like nothing more than to stock it's D ranks with big bodies that can play now or very shortly, all of which Buffalo has to offer.

Obviously it's speculative, but, the point being there is the potential here for both teams to "win" a trade based on need and where they are currently at with their respective development and compete timelines.

No he's not Kesler plays with broken bones though...and Kesler only starts the season injured in most cases...due to almost dying in the playoffs the year before

If you don't count last season which was a cluster(frank) of injuries for Kesler, half of which could have happened to anyone...he has only missed 7 games in the past 5 seasons...
