Miller
For
Hemsky
Dubnyk
N. Shultz
1st RD pick
Buffalo gets the first for taking on salary.
Rolls the dice with Hemsky. This is the wild card so to speak.
Gets a young goalie to replace Miller.
Just has to bite the bullet on salary for a year. Sabres are going to suck this year anyway.
Edmonton gets a solid veteran goalie. If Edmonton wins a playoff spot Miller will resign.
Frees up over 5 million in cap space...when you factor in the bonuses they're currently over the cap and that would eat into next year. - quinnjj
thats fair..but most Oiler fans think Dubnyk is as good as Miller on here |

Take the 1st out and they may do it...Edmontons 1st is likely to still be out of a playoff spot...even with Miller...I'd say it will take a year or 2 of Eakins to make that team play the way they should...their past coaches have not done it since their cup run and really ruined that team... |

no. most oiler fans say that dubnyk was a way better value at half the salary than miller was last year. and had better numbers.

Goaltenders are not worth what people are giving credit for...Fleury would go for about the same at this point...even given the fact he was taken SO high in the draft... |

Miller for Hemsky would not be that bad of a trade. Depending on the prospects/picks that would be included. There is no way Edm is going to resign Hemsky and getting Miller for a year will allow them time to se if they want to sign him long term. Sabres getting Hemsky is not very good for a team rebuilding, however if he has a good year, Hemsky would likely get more than Miller would at the trade deadline. Reason being is that starting goalies don't get traded at the deadline to teams in the hunt. Maybe a trade like Miller and a 2nd for Hemsky and a 1st? Edm is close to the cap, so they can't really take on money and they only have 2 d-men 6 forwards and no goalies signed past this year. A trade with Miller, Ennis (from Edmonton), Pysyk (from Alberta) and a 2nd for Hemsky and Yak would be nice for both teams. Only reason I mention Yak is because Edm was appearently shopping him earlier this year. - adambuffalo
How about Miller, Myers and salary for Hemsky and Yak? |

Not getting Yakupov that easily, at least from Oiler fans on this board who think Yak is worth a Kings ransom. |

Miller is not going to be traded this month.
Regier (and most GM's) are on vacation in August. |

Why and how would the Oil take on salary? They're already pushing the cap. And no thanks. |

Miller> Dubnyk. And it's not really as close as some think. I don't think Miller is the best in the world but he is the sole reason we didn't pick top 3. With some salary retained or Hemsky coming back as a contract dump Edmonton makes sense. Dubnyk might have similar numbers, but he's not a workhorse that can play 65+ games and has playoff experience. Edmonton is a better team with Miller |

There is a lot of difference between the value some on here see these players and the value the GMs see them... - Eklund
Value has nothing to do with it. You don't trade one soon to be UFA for another when you are trying to rebuild. This deal makes absolutely no sense. None. Hell it doesn't even save you money.
