IdK ask any Naive-American if they like the logo or name. Also apply's to the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins(which gets the most criticism). I'm sure Native-Americans don't appreciate it. - Cheeseballin
Speaking as a member of the Choctaw Nation and a descendant of multiple participants of the Trail of Tears I can say most see the Blackhawks logo as a tribute rather than demeaning in any way. I get requests for hats and gear every time I head back to Arkansas - and they aren't exactly hockey fanatics either.
The tribute is reinforced by Blackhawk management's strong and active relationships with a number of tribes. Also helped preserve the Eternal Indian statue on the Rock River and honor native American veterans quite frequently - at least 3 times in this year's playoffs if I recall correctly (maybe more).
The Cleveland Indian logo is an insult. The Redskins logo and name less so.
That said, lighten up Francis. It is self appointed enforcers of the PC who turn things like this into an infringement of free speech. That is more sacred than any group's pride.
Great list, JJ.

Thanks for the reminder!
The other day I stumbled into a replay of the final several minutes on youtube...
...spent the next hour watching various replays from 2013 and 2010.
Good times. |

I never said I was a fan of the Preds stuff either...I will admit they have had some of the worst jerseys in the sport.
However...there is no way the Hawks jersey is the best in the sport. |

I liked a number of the old WHA sweaters/logos, including the Chicago Cougars.
Other than the Blackhawks, the next best is the old Quebec Nordique. And the Fleur de lis around the waist was awesome. When they get the team back, they need to bring back those unis. Awesome shade of blue.
And the Kings need the purple (acutually called Forum Blue) and gold. Especially liked when they wore the home gold with the gold pants.

we're all just consolation prizes to the glory that is the Hartford Whalers logo/colours.
Quibble away. That was the best. |

For every Native American who finds it offensive there's another one who doesn't give a poop, and just because they may not "appreciate it" doesn't make it racist. Maybe we should ask Irish-Americans if the term "Fighting Irish" is offensive too? - Ogilthorpe2

Thx tred
The Hawk logo is a tribute. And it is a tribute to a man, who likely wore a ritual head dress and face paint and carried a tomahawk at some point.
To call the logo the most racist in sports or even really racist is silly.

Oh you must know many Native-Americans then? ok..
The difference between the Irish and Native-Americans, well it's a pretty big one. See we raped and killed thousands of them then stuck them on little plots of land across the country, then say here you go you can have this little piece of land. - Cheeseballin
Here's a newflash for you, Ace, that is pretty much exactly what happened to my Irish ancestors and those of millions of Americans, Canadians, etc in their country from 1670 or so until and through the Potato Famine.
Then they came ot this country and died by the tens of thousands in the Civil War of a country that viewed them as sub-human.
The experiences are different, and in many ways that of Natives in the US is much worse without question, but you are truly being foolish based on the simple notion that the Hawk logo is a tribute to a MAN and represents what he wore and carried. It is not a stereotypical, insulting portrayal, like, some might argue, the Indians or Fighting Irish logo.
You are taking political correctness to a ridiculous extreme, because you think you can. But you really have nothing to stand on.
It is a tribute. That's the problem with your argument. |

Kinda surprised no mention of Chelsea Dagger? Sure, not everyone likes it, but it always means something awesome just happened and the start of a great celebration.... Whether it be an overtime winner or a short handed laugher. Also kinda signifies the Hawks resurgence and two cup winners... - DaCincyKid
Great point and welcome! |
