Assuming the much-hated Offer-Sheet won't be deployed by a team, like my beloved Flyers, I'd try and trade for him. Obviously I have a massive bias being the Flyers and trying to find that quintessential top D-man, so I'd offer something like this:
To St. Louis: Brayden Schenn, Nick Cousins, Braydon Coburn, and a 1st round in 2014, and a 2nd in 2015
To Philadelphia: Alex Pietrangelo - Flyers_V88
Not gonna trade a 1st rounder for next year when Philly is hosting the draft... |

Swap Luke Schenn in for Coburn (the Blues are too left handed right now on defense) and you have the makings of a fair deal. I wouldn't expect the Blues to bite on it because they have no need to do so, but at least the return would be realistic.
With likely over $8M of cap space left after signing MPS (would likely replace Aucoin on the 23-man roster) an offer sheet is a non-issue, which is why the Blues still have all the leverage in this. I expect to hear either a 2/$11M extension or a mega-deal along the lines of 8/$50M in the next four weeks. The Blues won't give him Letang money this summer because they don't have to. They can wait two more years before they have to do that and there is little Petro or his agent can do about that. |

Hopefully so... He's incredibly creative with the puck, and I see him making a name for himself. I don't think he was given a fair shake with the Oilers. - laughs2907
Absolutly true!! But he has to get his head straight and start realizing that everything doesnt always have be about him, him & him. |

Yeah, there's been questions about his attitude for sure. He has the talent... It's up to him on whether or not he wants to be a success in the NHL. |

Word is that he told his agent any offer sheets would have to be 7 years and have an aav over 7 per or he wasn't interested.
Tough for St. Louis to fit that in.... - Iggysbff
They would match...that proposal would actually be an easy decision. More moves would have to be made but that's not an offer sheet that would pry Pietro out of StL
Remember, the ONLY reason Nashville even considered not matching Weber's offer sheet was all of the bonus money in the first few years of the deal. Term and AAV were not an issue, cash flow was |

You're kidding? To get Pietrangelo, I think you have to... He is better than ANY player we'll draft next year...
Obviously this is all hypothetical and for fun, but I really hope that isn't a reason not to trade a first to land a superstar D? |

Haha, fair. I'd wanna keep Luke if I'm Holmgren, but I can see the validity of your request. |

While I certainly understand what you're saying and the excitement of hosting a draft and having a 1st round pick. IF the opportunity to acquire Pietro was there, holding onto your 1st round pick when hosting the draft is not a reason to hold back on making that deal. If that is a serious consideration in any of Holmgren's negotiations over the next year then the Flyers organization is dumber than I thought. |

They won't be able to fit it after they sign MPS for his 3 mill. |

Cool. Who else do you want to trade for? This is a fun game.
I want Malkin. What do the Blues need to give up to get Malkin. |

If I was a team with cap space I would offer sheet him. Maybe 7 years 56 million. Not sure if st Louis matches or not - Snagglepuss
St Louis would match any offersheet. Acutally, he is not going to sign an offersheet. If he was, it would have happened by now.
The number of teams that can even make an offer big enough for Petro to sign it are not going to be very good teams. Contenders will not have the cap space to do it. I don't see Petro signing an offersheet to a bad team for long term. |

I pray Holmgren has an ace up his sleeve... Your thoughts on my hypothetical trade proposal above? If you were GM in St. Louis, what's your reaction? - Flyers_V88
Pietro's camp has already informed the Blues that their only interest is in resigning with the Blues. There are no teams with enough cap space & need for a d'man, so this is not this summer's Weber. |

An awkwardly long hug, and a one-way ticket back to the 80's. |

I can see the blues trading him, contact talks are going nowhere and they just invested in Bouwmeester and they dont have the cap to fit in Pietrangelo unless they deal away someone else they need, They barely have any depth at forward as it is so whats the plan??? |
