Yes, his 61 points in 58 games shows he is a true playoff underachiever. If only he would get it together like the rest of the team who play absolutely stunning in the playoffs, like green, Semin, backstrom, Laich, Carlson...oh wait. - Blackstrom2
Well, yeah, OV puts up some playoff points, but he isn't exactly clutch. 5 GWG in 58 games for a guy who racks up the points he does is good, but not otherworldly.
I remember the Tampa/Wash series in 2011- OV played well, but seemed to be lacking that extra gear to really throw the team on his back in pressure situations when it really counts.
On the flip side, if we go by your argument, Sean Bergenheim's miraculous playoff run that year must cement him as a playoff great. Well, no... he racked up some points, sure. But he didn't pull the kind of magic that Marty, Vinny or Roloson had that season. Stamkos was pretty up and down himself.
Regardless, OV is a mega talented player- no doubt. But he has yet to lead his team to much of anything in the post-season. While the onus is not entirely on him (like you said, what about Green, Backstrom etc.) he is the face, captain and supreme talent on that team. So go the accolades, so goes the derision. |

Would be nice to see him go to the KHL. Oh nevermind.... then I cant watch Couturier shut him down anymore. - GOA88
I thought Couturier was being traded. At least every Flyer trade rumor starts with him. |

I thought the photo you used was quite the opposite. A guy coming off a broken jaw was involved in a scrum with the biggest man in the NHL. |

Do Pens fans frequent the Flyers blogs? Honest question I never enter their comments section to see. |

Sigh..I am not going to get into it again. I hardly ever like to defend Ovi, but when people put the blame on him for his horribly built team for not going deeper than they should (which I don't buy anyway), there's something wrong there.
it was unfair to Joe Thornton, and it's unfair to Ovi. There are 11 other forwards, 6 defenders, and a goalie on the ice as well. |

I like to escape here sometimes, the vitriol Mr. Wilson generates (what with his controversial blog subjects such as 'Why It's Good to be a Pens Fan') is a bit lighter hearted. Maybe I just think that because I don't have a horse in the race, though |

Scrum? He got cold cocked or sucker punched. However you want to say it he had a right to be irritated there. If you don't get in Chara's face THEN your a wuss. Not the other way around. |

That punch drew a collective yawn in the hockey world. I imagine the reaction would have been the same if Cooke did that to Bergeron... |

I go to the Cape May area every year and it could be a Sunday and I catch traffic in Philly. I couldn't do it everyday |

Even in the suburbs it's aggravatingly backed up. I swear, rush hour around here is from 7:45AM through 8:30PM. |

They can call him a cryer all they want, the fact is that he's the best player in the world. If he's putting up the best PPG average since Gretzky and Lemieux then who cares. The fact is every captain in the league cries to the refs. |

and Bossy.Crosby is 4th on the list, and clearly the best player in the NHL today. No sarcasm.
Ovechkin is 11th on the list, but he's a washed up bum, who can't do anything, lead, etc, etc, etc, etc. Sarcasm

No other Caps fans to play with? Relax. It's Saturday and there is no hockey on TV. I miss those game in the playoffs a few years ago when both stars were on their way up. That was fantastic tension and hockey in my book. Miss that stuff. |

I'm sorry but his disappearing act was a huge reason why they didn't get passed the 1st round. |
