random friendly banter is definitely not as interesting as you and the mayorofangrytown spewing insults at each other regarding keith primeau opinions

Keith Primeau had nothing to do with this, leave him out of it.

I just wanted to give my objective opinion on Jeff Carter and keep in mind I wasn't a huge Carter fan myself.

He always took wrist shots, never slap shots. He did shoot wide a lot but I think that was a result of trying to pick corners. We all know he was a sniper and that shot was deadly if it hit the next. In fact I'm willing to bet he'll see 40 at least once before his career ends. He was a strong faceoff man. Good two way forward. I think Laviolette even failed Carter by having him play the wing because we were weak at the dot with Carter at the wing.

On the other hand, I never thought he was a very good playmaker. If he could make a clutch Giroux like pass, we rarely saw it. I also feel for a big kid, he never threw his body around enough. This isn't to say he is soft or not tough. I remember when he tuned Ryan Whitney when he was a Penguin. He also was playing on a bad foot in the 2010 playoffs courtesy of Chris Pronger. I also felt Carter never really showed up in the playoffs. Some but not as dynamic as Briere, Giroux or Richards. Not even as dynamic as Gagne.

With this said, prior to picking up Lecavalier, we could have used a Jeff Carter in our line up.

dude the no slap shots thing always irked me

always loved guys like Mats Sundin who would just crack it up from the slot. worst case senario you create a fat rebound that someone can jam in

All reasonable thoughts Dingo. I may not agree with all of it. But I think it's very objective.

I felt Carter shot to score, not to create rebounds, this is why we never saw a slap shot. Just my opinion, I'm not Jeff Carter.

pretty sure he just meant Carter was trying to pick his spot with an accurate wrister rather than just firing off a slap shot.

In all honesty, I don't know what I would rather have. Richards and Carter or the return we got for them. Simmonds and Brayden Schenn are easily my two favourite players on the roster. I have high hopes that Couturier will become more of a Rod Brind'amour, then Manny Malholtra. The sky is the limit for Jake Voracek. I'm just glad the Flyers never went with what the Leafs offered for Richards.

Well than I guess Carter isnt any good at taking a slapshot apparently cause I could rifle off a lot of players that take very accurate slapshots

Cause he apparently wasnt any good at it. Or else he would be rifling shots at the net like Stamkos, Ovechkin, Hull, Lindros, Leclair... the list goes on

Same reason Carle doesnt take slappers and just wrist shots from the point

Are you trying to say Stamkos is a better hockey player than Carter?
