LOL. Christ man, that's ridiculous. If I was a mod you'd be gone for a month after saying something like that. Moronic thing to say to someone.

I don't agree about Bottom 6 players being easy to acquire. I mean, yes, Bottom 6 players are everywhere. But good ones? Almost harder to find than a top pairing defenseman.

Isnt in a bit premature to say blow up your bottom 6 when you have no idea how Eakins plans on using or deploying those players. Maybe he has a plan with that line up or waiting till training camp to see how the battles go before they start shipping out/replacing some of the older vets

Agreed. Eager has been written off as useless, but he may just bounce back. If he can come back with a consistent effort and level of crazy then he can play 3rd line. He can skate and at one time was a decent player.

Smyth will be able to play responsible minutes and chip in a few as long as his minutes are limited. He is also a great mentor for the young players. Who better to teach work ethic and what it is to be a pro.

eakins is a motivator from what it seems, gets the best out of his players. He did take a sorry bunch of pluggers and a handful of respectable leaf prospects to the Calder final.

L3: Jones - Gordon - Hemsky
L4: Smyth - Lander - Joensuu

While this is only a marginal improvement over last year it is an improvement.

Gordon is significantly better than Horcoff. Better/similar 5 x 5 ppg A lot better @ face offs. Great 2 way player, penalty killer...etc. He literally is an improvement on Horcoff in almost every way for half the price.

Jones is highly underrated. High scoring third liner who typically plays against tough opposition. 2 of his last 3 years he has been an outstanding 3rd liner. Ive heard his injury is all healed up and he is ready to go.

Hemsky. This ins't all sunshine. Who knows if Hemsky will be last years Whitney and be a train wreck in the dressing room and on the ice. Talent wise we should be elated to have such a great player on our third line. Just depends on his motivation. Although having a top six forward as a third liner is rarely a good fit it is nice to have that kind of depth.

There are some variables to this, but it is actually a solid third line. Lots of scoring and skill with still a bit of defensive accountability. Would prefer a big checking winger instead of Hemsky but it is what it is.

Smyth. I was one of the few that thought Smyth had some good games last year. Had some weak stretches too tho. I think... I hope Smyth finally realizes his limited usefulness, accepts it, and pushes himself to be effective in that role. Three years ago people would have been extremely happy to have Smyth on our fourth line. I think taking him in and out of the line-up and playing him 4th line minutes will be great for the team. Especially in the locker room.

Lander. Hasn't proven anything yet at the NHL level. Barely has at the AHL level. If he builds off his playoff run in the AHL last year we are laughing. If not we bring up someone else. Our depth isn't great but it is adequate enough for fourth line duty. And having Smyth as a back up for this role is nice.

Joensuu. Don't know anything about him. Heard he is extremely similar to Harti. If he fails maybe Eager comes up and sticks. I loved the addition of Eager. Sad it hasn't worked out yet. But he is a great fourth liner. Great range of skill and size. Truly this guy has the skill to be a solid third liner but that just hasn't panned out for the Oil.

I really hope the Oilers are better at recognizing when a player is playing terrible and have the balls to bench that player indefinitely. Keeping Whitney in the line-up just cause of his price tag hurt the team terribly last year. He wasn't even playing AHL level for most the year. We have considerable depth in our system and it is time to start using it.

Eager is the first call up if he doesn't actually push someone out of the line up Clouts is proposing.

I have no problems bringing up Rajala, Pitlick, Arcobelle or anyone from our AHL affiliate. You never know when one of these guys will rise to the occasion and steal a permanent job from someone.

Let's trade hemsky to the islanders for a second and then Shultz to the panthers for a third rounder and then offer sheet Alex p. 7 years 60 million. Trade smid and nurse to Somewhere and bring in solid forward or forward for the 3rd line. (insert idea).

Where do you get $14 million in cap space. Cap Geek has the Oilers at $1.3 million of cap space.

sign Mueller. Keep hemsky until at least RNH is healthy.

Perron-Gags-Hemsky

Doubt N Schultz gets a 2nd. Maybe a 3rd from a desperate team. Bad cap hit

EDM got one of the better bottom six Cs in the league by overpaying 500k.

Cannot say close to the same for a top pairing D

hemsky has very little value at 5 million per

Neither are worth more than a low round pick

What's EDM's Jeff Schultz value? You've told me yourself his D game isn't good from the games you've seen.

- I'm not a huge Jordan Tootoo fan, but what about moving Schultz to the Wings for Tootoo? The Wings need another D-man before the season starts.

They have 7 defensemen signed right now so no the Wings don't need another dman...especially not one making 3.5 million and doesn't upgrade their defense.

Reclamation project Glennie? Not even close... Although the price tag is. And how about Hamilton? Will play well under Eakins, and will definitely help a terrible penalty kill. Keep trying though Clouts, one day you'll have it. But probably not
