Wow no wonder Gomez was able to squeeze out a whole 900k on a 1 year deal.... And obviously there is no need to watch games when you can just look at points to evaluate a player. Great post.

youre right, let's use a contract to evaluate player's skill levels instead -- much more credible vs pts... right?

Well actually it does show how much value the people that construct teams put into a certain player, but I do not think you should simply base a players talent on a contract. That's not what I was saying.

Tortorella has made a career of making "examples" of his star players. From stripping Vinny of the C in Tampa, to the way he handled Gaborik or how about how he instilled confidence in a young Carl Hagelin by stating that he stinks in the media. Not to mention how he turned a fairly effective pest, Sean Avery, into a lapdog. Believe the reports or not, most of the top players on the Rangers wanted him gone. I'm betting it won't be long before the Canucks feel the same.

I 100% concur. He's going to roll 3 lines in the 3rd period of every game then throw said players under the bus when they're tired. The guy's a total jack 0ff. Can't wait to see how he deals w/the BC media.

Are you scared for your team? Your window for success has nearly (if not already) passed. The Sedins are declining rather quickly. Kesler doesn't play at his Selke level anymore. It's still under dispute if your only goalie left even wants to be there. You traded your most valuable trade piece for a single pick that got you a guy that projects to be a 2nd liner at best. Your prospect pool is concerningly thin. You have only $4.3 million in cap space and need to (re)sign 3 players. You're team has proven itself to be incapable of winning in the playoffs, and you're best chances at success have given you no cups. You're team is on track to be a bottom feeder very soon. Your team's only hope now is to pawn off the Sedin twins, Kesler, Burrows, Edler, Hamhuis, Garrison, and the rest of your players of value in order to build a good youth core. Too bad for you, your GM lacks the balls to make deals that bold. He'll sit on the aging core you have while it slowly continues to skid out and achieve nothing. Once that happens, you're bandwagon fan base will disappear into the hills of BC, only to be seen again once the next coming of the Sedins appears out of the mist. The Canucks are interesting because, despite having one of the best rosters in the league, they are still totally (frank)ed.

Sorry if that came across angry, didn't really mean it that way. And hey, at least we don't murder people over sports like they do in a lot of soccer countries

Well I guess they had 2 options there, put Huberdeau on C and draft Drouin, or do what you're suggesting there
- annoyance_101

Florida taking Barkov over Drouin reminded me Pittsburgh taking Staal over Toews. Both good players and cup winners but the other option would be clearly better.

More importantly that playoff team had Weiss centering the top line and Garrison bombing shots and playing great D. Those players are gone, don't expect Sean bergienhiem to make any kind of impact. Steeger still hurt, Gomez will probably end up playing top line minutes on this mess of a team.
- floridapanthers4ev

You're still allowed to post???
Did you see the year the Panthers made the playoffs because if you did, you would've known that Bergenhiem DID in fact make a HUGE impact! Yes, We'll miss Weiss and Garrison, but Garrison had one good year, only one, and now he sucks in Van like Kuba sucked with us. We'll miss Weiss but we have to move on. Gomez may not do anything spectacular, but at least that gives Tallon some breathing room to allow the likes of Shore, Bjugstad, and Howden to gain experience in the AHL if they do not make the NHL squad. It gives us a player who has won 2 Stanley Cup rings and isn't over the hill. Versteeg will come back healthy, at some point. Whether it's in training camp,pre-season, or reg. season, Steeg will be back.

This team is NOT a mess of a team, they are a team in transition. We do have speed, skill, grit, and size. It may not happen over night but this team will develop into a powerhouse, whether you're sh*tty opinion agrees or not.

Garrison didn't suck in Vancouver, inept coaching by AV and the powerplay coaching staff sucked in Vancouver...huge HUGE difference

Garrison was arguably the team's best d-man(I'd give him the slight edge over Hamhuis) this season. Guy is a just a rock defensively, rarely ever makes a bad play. Knows his strengths and weaknesses, makes a good first pass, great PP weapon and is a shutdown type of d-man. And this is coming from a guy who was sceptical of the signing since at first I'm really scared of Ex-Panther players.

they are NOT a team in transition. If you think starting a bunch of kids and hope for the best is our BEST solution then you obviously weren't around for the last rebuild in which they rushed kids like Olesz and Horton and got nothing but losing records and a RECORD SETTING PLAYOFF DROUGHT. Gotta love the Panthers!! Making the same mistakes since 2000!!!

Barkov will be ruined ONCE he struggles and ONCE the team is 20 games under .500 by the end of the season. He'll wish he stayed in Finland.

I don't understand your whole rushing the kids statements and putting them in bad situations.. Experience is experience, weather it's in the AHL or NHL, when you have top picks (1-5) most times than not they are ready for the NHL. Barkov has been playing against men and has proven that he can DOMINATE let a lone hang with them. Mikko Koivu played in finland over the lock out against Barkov and guess what happened, Barkov Dominated and was easily the best player on the ice (that's coming from Craig Button). Huberdeau came in and won the Calder playing a significant role on the team. Gudbanson has played pretty good as well, people seem to forget the way he played in the playoffs. Yes he had a bad season last year, that set-back didn't help him at all, but I promise you who will play a hell of a lot better this year. So please enough with the rushing the kids crap.
