I really can't take hockeysfuture ratings seriously. They gave Girgensons and Compher a 6.5 but during McBain's draft they gave him an 8.0 and a B which in other words is all but guaranteeing the player will be a top pairing defensemen.

Did anyone watch the newest "Beyond Blue and Gold"? In it, Regier says the team at 20 (SJ) offered that pick, their 2nd and another piece to move up, likely for Zadorov (they drafted Marco Mueller)

I wish they had taken Mantha, he has so much scoring potential. The downside is that his game must have had a major flaw if he was taken in the 20's. Also, did you hear how happy Devine was when Nashville took Risto? I gather that means that Risto was ranked high on the Sabres' board.

Id say its getting close between Risto Zadorov and Freakarenko. Can't imagine how good Horton would have been had he signed here, his blogs pleading for the sabres to sign him were priceless

Prob. behind the obvious forwards and neck and neck with Jones. I honestly didn't understand all of the hype behind Jones. He seemed slightly better than or the same as Risto or Nurse, depending on the game.

They were set on staying at 8 and getting Risto. He was worried Nashville brought their Finnish scout up there to the stage. He thought possibly they would miss out on Risto due to Nashville surprising and taking him at 4.

There's no way they were trading that pick with Zadorov there
He should've been picked 11th by Philly at the lowest
I saw some mocks where EDM took him
And I read quite a few scouting reports that actually had him as the #2 defenseman behind Jones

Say what u want about Darcy in the past (he's certainly made mistakes)...
But he's put together one heck of a defense for the future

We essentially got 3 first round picks this year

i think we will take a forward as long as the drop off isn't great from d to forward where we pick next season..

i thought they were going to take shak... whatever his name is with the 16 when he kept falling. but i will take the pick and wait to see how he turns out.

I watched the Beyond Blue and Gold episode about the draft as well, and I think they really were going to go with a Forward at 16. They just couldn't believe that Zadorov was still there. They knew they couldn't pass on him. The same thing happend when Pysyk was drafted. They had already drafted a bunch of defensemen over the previous few drafts but they couldn't believe he was still there when they picked, so they went with him.

Generally, it seems to be the mantra of Devine to take the guy that's best available. I can't say that I hate it either, because for the most part, I've really liked his drafts. Not everything works out, but that's true for any team.
