This is just too funny!

I fully wasn't paying attention as to which person actually started claiming that +/- is an important stat when determining their contract size and it wasn't bluechip, it was you, please explain exactly how +/- is a stat that GM's look at when determining contracts?

When did I say that? I never did. So please get your facts straight before you make stuff up.

I don't think he has the ability to comprehend, you know... stuff. Nor the ability to formulate an argument that isn't, you know... really dumb.

I already did. It's a valuable stat in helping to determine a player's value. It is not the most important, nor the least important. It needs to be put into context as well, but so do all stats. It is a tool used to help identify a player's value and the contribution they make on the ice.

I feel bad for professional athletes who work hard and put in tonnes of effort over decades just to have a few people spout off about negative experiences they witnessed with absolutely zero context whatsoever. Gretzky's a horrible guy because one time he only signed 5 autographs for kids and not for the 50 others who were waiting? Could he have been sick, hurt, tired, having a bad day, or seen his daughter post more pics of herself on instagram? Maybe signing 100s of autographs everywhere he goes is just a little too much even for The Great One?

And guess what, it isn't their job. That is the extra bit they do outside of their job for the fans.

- KB3Point0

I gave you the context, I gave you the exact situation that it had happened...sick, hurt, tired, having a bad day?.......you wanna know what he did next? went to McDonalds with his family...because that is where the kids went to next and coincidentally ran in to him again...if you are sick, hurt, tired, or having a bad day, is McDonalds the place you go to fix all that?

Just a question who would you rather have. Im gonna make up stats here.

Player A

G- 100
A - 105
+/- = -25

Player B

G - 85
A - 95
+/- = +30

I would always take player A and I would pay him more.

So then tell everyone how Lou gave Kovalchuk 100 million dollars because of his stellar defensive play based on his +/-... Cause it obviously had a lot to do with why he was paid so nicely...

I read that this morning...that really would be awesome, but I truly believe they need to drop the dead weight in phoenix and nashville before thinking of expansion...

HE WENT OUT WITH HIS FAMILY??? You think he's such an a**hole because he didn't stand around for another hour signing autographs because he wanted to spend time with his family???

100% agree. If you think a professional athlete is a role model then you have crappy parents. They are paid to play a sport not to sign your autograph.
- Bluechip23

SOME professional athletes are role models, just that MOST give everyone a bad name.

Totally agree but I think its so hard to pick and choose who is that good guy. Most likely they will fail you. Look at MJ. As a parent I hope my kid never looks to any athlete to be a role model. I hope he will follow and strive to be like VANTEL.

I already said that stats are only tool used to HELP judge a player's value and contribution. You need context. By even putting forward this option you are showing that you just don't get it.

By the way, in regards to these options, Player A could easily be Todd Bertuzzi and Player B could easily be Pavel Datsyuk (in their primes). Would you have taken Bertuzzi over Datsyuk?

Accepted. It all started when I said Kessel might get 8mil. KB3 pointed out that he will never come close.

I countered with Kessel has outscored perry and getzlaf over the last 3 yrs.

He countered with the +/- stat saying kessel wont get 8mil because his plus minus is crap compared to those 2. The rest of the debate was a gong show as per hockeybuzz usual.

When your name is Wayne Gretzky and you give the impression to a group of kids in a wheelchair that you do not give 2 poops about them, do you really believe that it helps the game grow to act that way? Why do you think Seguin was shipped out of Boston so fast? Could it be that he was an bumhole? Yes, not everything has to do with players on ice play...ESPECIALLY when are known as one of, if not the best player to ever play the game...and that was just 1 instance that happened with him, if that happens on a regular basis, do you really think that people are going to want to watch him play? I know that after I saw the way he acted, I intentionally did not watch him again after that...it was soon before he retired mind you but none the less...when you give people the impression that you just dont care about them, they aren't going to want to support you, and yes fans are the ones that pay the players salary through purchasing tickets...

B) I only said that +/- is one tool to help assess a players' value
C) Your argument is really, really dumb

No, I countered saying that both Perry and Getzlaf were better all round players than Kessel, which you agreed with. The +/- stat was just an example of one stat that helps show that. I never said they were better because they had better +/-.

+/- does nothing to assess a players value...I'd take kovalchuk over most players in the league currently, yet his +/- blows...it is by far the most useless stat you can use to assess a players value...
