I'm not trying to justify what Bert did. My original response was to a poster suggesting that Cooke was the first guy to go after Moore, when in fact Moore declined everyone else and then hand picked Cooke. - golfingsince
No. Nobody suggested he was the 1st to go after Cooke, just one of the 1st. It happened off the 1st face off of the game Moore was on the ice for. My point was that Cooke shouldn't have challenged him. The code requires him to fight. If you want him also to lose them he should have waited for May, who was already in the box for fighting and hadn't seen the ice yet at the same time as Moore.
You're missing the point entirely...Moore declined everyone except Cooke...everyone on that team wanted to knock his head in...(bad choice of words i suppose considering what followed) but none the less... - annoyance_101
So every other player on the team challenged him that game and he turned them all down?

you sure?
The biggest problem was that Matt Cooke (worst fighter outside of maybe Semin) was the 1st to challenge Moore to a fight, and Moore won. That enraged the fans and the team even more. Then Bertuzzi went full retard. You don't ever go full retard! - KB3Point0

Moore grabbed Cooke, that is the only person on the entire team that Moore wanted to fight...had Cooke declined, there would have been NO fight in that entire game, and it would have ended the same way...with Bertuzzi bashing his head in...the cooke fight changed NOTHING... - annoyance_101
Moore might have grabbed Cooke, but Cooke challenged him using his, you know, words!

Now I know that you didn't even watch the game in question...he turned down everyone that challenged him yes and went after Cooke because thats all he thought he could handle...watch the game and then comment

The problem is this. You, and many other fans (and obviously Bert) don't care about "the code." You care about vengeance and you use the code as an excuse to get that vengeance. Don't hide behind the code. Just admit you wanted him to get hurt for what he did to Naslund and that'll be that.

I wanted him to fight anyone else that challenged him...and not grab someone from the lollipop guild...aka cooke

Yeah, he turned them all down AFTER he fought Cooke. The fight happened 6:30 into the game.
I was at the game. The energy in the building played a large part in the eventual incident.
This never happened. Moore grabbed Cooke after the draw. We are talking about the incident, which just happens to be spread over 2 games. - golfingsince
No, you are talking about the incident. I said from the get go that Cooke should not have challenged Moore if he wasn't going to win the fight (and yes, he did).
Cooke was probably the 10th to challenge Moore. He was the only one Moore accepted. - golfingsince
Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. Brad May I think was the first, but that was so long ago I may be misremembering.
Re: Bloated's perspective. I think that if Naslund was in a position AT THE TIME to stand up for himself than it is warranted that he fight his own battle. But that he had a shoulder injury and while it wasn't listed, I'm betting he had a pretty nasty concussion, getting in a fight probably wasn't high on the list of smart things to do. To me, getting in a fight with someone a month (or more) later because he cheap shotted you isn't really standing up for yourself, it's more retribution, and there is just as good a chance that he gets injured again in that situation.

Yes he thought he would try and get his fight over by hand picking a munchkin that doesnt fight...man up and fight someone that will actually address the teams problem with you...
Well, I definitely know he was one of the first! I honestly would not be able to tell you if he was the first. Far from turning down the whole team though. He might have turned down one other before he and Cooke went. And yes, Cooke challenging him allows him to fight Cooke as part of the code.
