From a Flames fan's perspective what would it take to land Giordano + Glencross? (Don't worry about specific names if you don't want to)

As a Leaf fan I'd offer Franson + Liles + Colborne/Percy + 2014 2nd. I imagine the Flames would want more though?

- Lipchitz

It would be a big package that's for sure.

I would say maybe Gardiner, a First, and a Second from the leafs. The Flames would also be able to take some salary back as well....so some type of package with Liles would probably work.

No.

GlenX brings at least a 1st or top prospect with top 6 or 4 potential + or he doesn't get traded. Period.

I'd have a hard time moving Gardiner for Giordano. Pretty much any D not named Gardiner or Rielly would be on the table though IMO.

Franson + 2015 1st + 2014 2nd + Colborne + Liles + Percy

One of Gardner or Rielly is probably expendable in a trade to recieve Gio and GlenX

You toss Gardner or Rielly in place of Franson and I call this a deal.

No thanks. I'd rather just give Calgary Liles for basically nothing if they are interested.

It's not that Glencross or Gio are bad players, I just think people underrate Gardiner simply because they think Leaf fans overvalue him. I would give up any of our Defenseman not named Morgan Reilly before him, and any forward not named Kadri or Kessel (maybe Lupul but his injures scare me a bit.) That valuable IMO.

If I'm moving one of those guys it's in a package and I want a star #1 back.

Couldn't of said it better. Don't move them unless you can package for a true star player.

Fair enough....to me the real question is: does adding Giordano and Glencross to the Leafs make them contenders? If Bernier plays well, they might have a shot with those 2 guys IMO. Might be worth it.

Top pairing; Gio - Rielly
Second unit; Phaneuf - Gardiner

I really like the way that looks

We don't really have the cap to make a trade work for Gio and Glencross right now. If we could find a deal to pick up Glencross and shed Lilies by adding prospect or a 1st might be worth it.

Dude, with his contract Liles would be perceived from CGY as negative value. You would have to add for us to take Liles. Similar to the Regier trade a ouple of years ago.

It does like you said if Bernier emerged as a true number one, but if it means giving up Reilly or Gardiner I don't think it's with taking that chance. I might offer something like Liles, Ashton and a first for Glencross though. Just curious to see what flames fans might think of an offer like that.

You take Lilies give us Glencross and retain 550k of his salary so we can resign kadri and franson, then I'll go a 1st and Colborne, D'Amigo, or Blacker take your pick

Ya I think Liles, Ashton and First for Glencross is pretty close....might be a little light on the Leafs side. I don't see Liles as a complete waste as most people do. He could still contribute 2-3 years down the road once the rebuild is on the way up.

A voice of reason. Gotta say, most of the statistical bean counters would say if the kid hasn't translated his game to the NHL by age 23/24, he's more likely going to be a replacement call up player at best. I question if Flames shouldn't target someone like Biggs & Liles & give you guys a better return. Possibly a 2nd(which for us is almost like a late 1st) & a more developed goalie prospect like Ortio.

I assume because it made the deal work cap wise although I didn't actually look at the numbers.

This is my first comment ever. Long time lurker, but the stupidity in the above response forced me to contribute.

1. If Franson is seeking upwards of 3.34M (he's been reported as looking for close to 4M otherwise the Leafs would have signed him long term for ~3M ages ago), then any offer sheet between 3.35M-5.04M automatically comes with a 1st AND 3rd from the team that creates the offer sheet.

2. Burying him in the minor is an option, but not the best one since it only offers ~900K in savings.

3. What? Lol. You think he DOESN'T want to play in the NHL this year? Worst case scenario, he ends up going through the Subban route. Remember how that turned out?

4. I'm sorry, but you're a complete idiot if you think that Franson isn't worth more than a 3rd round pick. Seriously. Please stop being a fan of hockey because you give the sport a bad name. I mean, please remind me again how many d-men on the Flames put up 29 points in 45 games last year? Here's a link to help you figure that out: http://flames.nhl.com/club/stats.htm

5. Teams are still allowed REGULAR contract buyouts, but they count against the cap. So, YES, the Leafs CAN still buyout Liles' contract and it would actually only count as a 875K hit over the next two years (then it increases in Y3 and drops in Y4-6). Thanks for showing where YOUR knowledge base is.

These are only 5 VERY POSSIBLE options the Leafs have when it comes to Franson.

Seriously, please research and think before you post nonsense.

1st ever commentnand this is the crap you spew. Welcome to the "typical leafs fan" group.

Good job making a point there. You really addressed the content of my post in an intelligent manner.

On the plus side, I'm glad your writing has introduced me to the "typical unintelligent hockey fan" group. I really can't get enough of you guys.

Not much point in addressing in an intelligent manner to the unintelligent.
