Well my point was when it comes to prospects we get so attached we never want to deal anybody... Gotta give to get and I just said I would try and see if a team was really interested, once Richards is bought out perhaps him with a first and another prospect gets you young scoring winger. Gotta give to get and I'd rather him than our other defenseman.

But your original idea was to trade a prospect and another asset to get back into the first round this year to draft yet another prospect. That didn't make any sense unless there was someone the Rangers brass really loved and there was a team willing to move out of round one.

Now if you can make a deal for a young scoring winger on a good long term contract and the Rangers need to move Skjei and other prospects then so be it; I make that kind of move. I am not against moving prospects in the right trade but to deal Skjei one year after drafting him in round one as part of a package for another draft pick makes no sense to me.

Skating is a plus but I read how the offensive game just isn't there. In college last year he had something like what? 2 points all season and offensively wasn't making good plays with the pucks. And as a first round pick you should be making the WC-USA team. I think being a final cut is a knock not a plus. (I read he didn't do well in that camp). Again, I'm basing it off what I read and our organizational need (in terms of wanting him dealt.) I have never seen the kid play a shift.

Can't find the other thing I read that was alarming but it was based on his WC camp.

Unless I know the credentials of the evaluator I tend to read articles like that and take it with a grain of salt. The guy might know his stuff or he might be nothing more than a fan of the game, ill-equipped to make definitive conclusions about 18, 19-year-old kids and their chances of being a good pro player. In my book his opinion carries no more value than the opinion of any one of us on this board and as we have all seen we've all been wrong more than once about players.

I dont see a point in calling up McIlrath to be a healthy scratch, he needs all the ice time he can get to keep progressing. Rather just keep Johnson up to be a healthy scratch.

Pyatt likely wont be scratched, Im sure AV wants to see him on the ice and see if he is anything like the player he once saw on the Nucks.

Im also curious to see if AV tests out a USA line...
Kreider, Stepan, Kristo

would love him to test that USA line, just watched kristo's highlights again, the kid is amazing, another super fast player, that line could be really really good, hope they give kristo a chance to play

Grachev was a Kovalov wannabe. He's a lazy Russian; McIlrath is not. No need to worry about The Reaper. Beukeboom is taking care of the kid

So if Bouwmeester just got a five-year, $27 million extension, what is Girardi worth? Also, how underpaid then is McDonagh?

Perhaps the question is "how overpaid is J-Bo?". For an offensive d-man, putting up a steady 20+ points each year for the past 4 seasons isn't worth anything close to $5M. This makes Sather's debacle Redden deal look good.

That was the subtext of my question. I should have made it more explicit. Plus, if he gets that, how much will they have to pay Pietrangelo?

I would give Girardi the same exact contract extension as J-Bo right now if he wanted it.

I would to, but my guess is we are in the minority. Seems to me that a guy that plays 25 minutes a night against the other teams top forwards is going to get paid. Personally, I want to see McDonagh and Girardi skating as a pair for a long time.

I said $4.5, but I can agree to an extra .75M for Girardi. Gotta be a 5-year deal, though.

I want to sign him up to age 35, beyond that I would be wary, but, I'd understand it as a way to lower the cap hit.

I don't think Girardi's going anywhere.

At the end of the day, about $10 million is a reasonable number to spend on a top defensive pairing. But, the Rangers have 4 defensemen in Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, and Del Zotto, who have either gotten paid (McDonagh) or are in line to get paid Staal and Del Zotto. I can see one of them being a casualty to cap constraints, but I don't want it to be Girardi.

If staal gets back to form, I keep him over anyone else besides mcdonagh. Depending on moore and mdz's development, one of them could be the casualty. I can see girardi being a goner if mcilrath develops well into a shutdown dman since offensive guys like moore and mdz are hard to come by.

I think the Sather and the Rangers "hand out bad contracts" is over, this off season is one where bad money has been thrown around the league, Sather has spent money wisely this summer

He's projected to be a stay at home defensive defenseman so that could explain the lack of offense. He was also a freshman so he probably didn't get a lot of playing time. I agree that he is expendable though and a very forgettable prospect. But thats the type of prospect u get in the late 1st round most times.
- rangerdanger94

Wouldn't be the first time Sather messed up the easy 1st round choice for someone he could boast about finding "a gem".

Off Topic, we are all so pent on predicting Stepan being the top line Center or Richards still if he has a good bounce back year, but what about Brassard? Brassard is not as gifted defensively as Stepan, but he has a higher offensive game. He's more dynamic on the puck, Stepan is better IQ wise and positionally wise. Brassard also has had a long history with Nash. I wouldn't be surprised to see AV try them together as well. With Brassards end of the year performance and spectacular playoffs he's pretty impressive.

Yea brassard is a darkhorse for sure. He can slot it permanently as a 1c, 2c or 3c and I wouldn't be surprised at all. He could explode here into a top line player like voracek in philly.

Just came across this on Brassard and Arniel. I heard there was some issues there, but I had no idea they were this bad. Those are some really strong words from Brassard's agent, only 1 1/2 years ago. Sure hope those hard feelings have been patched up, because those are the type of statements I can't imagine a coach would forget about too easily.

Looks like #Leafs will use a non-compliance buy-out on John-Michael Liles, though I'm not convinced team can ever have too many defensemen.
