How about announcing to the media that he's flying to a player's home country with a self proclaimed wheelbarrow of cash only to land and find out he (they) were signed. Now THAT's pathetic.

He did none of that...but good try.

Not to mention, the kessel debacle, sure he's good, but he will NEVER live up to that trade...and Burke will always be responsible for that
- annoyance_101

You mean getting the best player in a trade isn't a good thing? Weird...no wonder you guys love Gillis so much, no hope of THAT ever happening.

ya because everyones jumping at the chance to play for cheap for the maple leafs...ask tyler bozak and david clarkson
- annoyance_101

We all know that every player secretly wants to play for the leafs.

Funny thing, I remember a few years ago this HNIC player poll that ranked Leafs as one of the least favorite teams to play for. A fan base completely in denial.

Sorry, you are correct. He was flying to Sweden to sign Jonas Gustavsson to a monster deal.

Interesting...because both guys you mentioned took less than market value to sign in Toronto. We didn't need to coax them with 12 year contracts either.

Good luck with that by the way.

- djamon

Keep laughing. In those 12 years you'll probably only make the playoffs twice.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but recent signee Ronald Kenins will be on loan to his current Swiss team, ZSC, this upcoming season, and won't join the Canucks until 14/15.

ya cause this never happened

Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defencemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenceman Daniel Rahimi and forward Patrick White.

and again

This time around, the Canucks have sent 30-something forwards Mikael Samuelsson and Marco Sturm to the Sunshine State in return for left winger David Booth, centre Steve Reinprecht and a third round pick in the 2013 draft.

Ya they never get the good end of the deals, you're right about that

Canuck fans are so funny. They spend all day arguing with one another but then as soon as a Leaf fan makes a harmless comment they're suddenly The Band of Brothers.

The Sedins are amazing, but the guy who stole them at their draft is an idiot. Luongo is a pro...one of the all-timers...but the guy who stole him for spare parts is called Nonuts.

Meantime you have a GM turning lemonade into lemons and a coach who was literally fired by the players on his last team. You can't make this up.

I was not arguing with a Canucks fan, I was arguing with a closet Leafs fan, read back on the conversation...

and despite everything, Canucks continue to be far better than the leafs

I don't think I've ever heard anybody, Canucks fan or not, say that move(s) wasn't genius.

People call Burke an idiot for other reasons.

Keep painting your broad brush strokes.

You can say what you want about Canucks fans, but it's not like many Leaf fans don't pick and choose stats, situations, and circumstances to fit their argument, and ignore everything that doesn't.

The solution's pretty simple—if you don't like it here, don't read or post.

I'm sure nobody in here will miss you...

As embarrassing a deal as it was, you could probably slot Ballard in there too.

Lappy and Higgins were decent deals as well.

By a "closet Leaf fan" do you mean the guy who came out and admitted the Leafs were his second favourite team? And by "far better than the Leafs" do you mean 2 points last year in a cake division?

The entire hockey world knows that as soon as the Canucks start sucking again (and it will happen) the fans will abandon them yet again.

- djamon

Again with the broad brush strokes.

Many of us here are old enough to have suffered through the Canucks being a losing team—we didn't leave then, we won't leave if it happens again.

I was a season ticket holder (well, my dad and I) from 1981 through until they moved to Rogers Arena. I got to see first hand the amount of suckage the Canucks had in the mid 80's to early 90's, the greatness that was the Bure years, the Messier years and I was second row, blueline seats on February 16, 2004 and saw first hand the Steve Moore incident. I'll never give up my fandom even though there's times I want to burn my merchandise.

Sure, but Sturm did nothing for us. Classic Gillis looking for value in the garbage heap. Terrible signing.
