Perhaps a bad comparison. But he's defensive abilities seem to trump his offensive abilities. I'd love for him to prove me wrong though.
- vancity787

I think the last two injury plagued seasons have really fogged the memory for Canucks fans as to how good Kesler is offensively. He's been healthy all summer and apparently shooting 100 pucks a day again. Last time he did that he had 41 goals and 32 assists playing against other teams' top lines.

I expect that Kesler will have a great year under Tortorella this year. He's pretty much everything Tortorella loves in a hockey player.

I agree. I also felt when the twins had Kassian other teams seemed to take less liberties. Even when teams do take liberties the twins still produce and play through it. I would love for the Canucks to have someone who is a beast on the forecheck play with them. That line never seems to knock anybody down.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of Kassian on the twins' line, but for his hockey ability and size, not because they need defending.

Your correct.. 2 cup rings and a Stanley cup winning goal.. Kesler should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Bolland.

That is a fallacy. Bolland did everything his club asked of him. He does play a similar role to Kesler. His goal won this cup this year. What does the guy need to do to get a little respect ?

If you win the cup it is because your 3rd and 4th lines win it for you. They are the lines that get you deep into the playoffs, or get you eliminated early.

I think Bolland is an excellent role player, and would compare him to Marchand. Player you hate to play against but would love to have on your team.

Hockey's a Team Game... I thought everyone played to win the Stanley cup.

Now you tell me everyone plays for individual trophy's...

Yeah your right..you haven't done anything till you've won a Selke or and individual trophy.

Well I guess that settles it. Michal Rozsival's clearly better than Steve Stamkos and Johnny Oduya's head and shoulders better than Shea Weber. Thanks for enlightening us!

We all know any player worth having would trade an individual trophy for his name on the cup. Individual awards are great for teams that need something to cheer for, trust me, I keep hoping for rookie of the year again and again, maybe in 2014.

Its a tricky thing posting in the canucks forum. Wording is very important. Your words get twisted, quotes out of context, suddenly a very apt comparison is skewed with unlike comparisons in a feeble attempt to de-validate any relevant point you have made.

Bolland is not any better in any way shape or form to Kesler...no one said he's a garbage player, he's a good role player, but the conversation started by someone directly comparing kesler and bolland...and there is no contest...Kesler every time...

If someone said you can either of these guys same term same dough, I am probably on Kesler too but to say he and Bolland don't play a similar role is incorrect.

His skill level is higher for sure but Bolland has the greater heart factor. Bolland can move up to 2nd line or even 1st if needed. Kesler has been known to slide as low as the third depending on match ups etc. these guys play a similar game on the ice.

I think the comparison was off in the way that Canucks feel that Kesler's ceiling is higher than Bollands. No player would disagree about trading an individual trophy to get their name on the cup.

The NHL is one of the few trophies that takes a team to win, not an individual.

Provided Kesler actually learns to pass the puck I don't see him being anything better than a dave bolland type Awesome third line center with the occasional scoring touch.
- vancity787

I think you're out to lunch on this. Kesler is so much more than Bolland! Yes he's ran into some injury trouble over the past couple of years but he's the quintessential second line center, in that he's scored better than 20 goals a year over the past five years (excluding last years) he's averaged 59 points a year over that time frame.

Bolland has never scored 20 goals in a year, although he did have two years where he scored 19, and he's only averaged 30 points per year over the same time frame.

Kesler is bigger, faster, stronger, just as good on the dot, can play a checking role like Bolland and he's more offensively gifted...as you can see in their numbers.

That is such a crock of sh!t it's not even funny! Both guys cross the line when it comes to their desire to win...both are jerk-offs too.
