trade liles and retain as much as possible (i think 50%, so 1.875). might be a better option.
I think someone would take him (and we don't have to add a prospect) @1.875. - burn
Agreed. I'm not sure why this isn't preferable to everyone...including whoever we trade him to. If he's bought out he's getting picked up by someone at likely a larger salary than 1.9m.
We have his money on the books for 3 years instead of 6. |

I don't watch any junior hockey, but I find it hard to bleieve that it is no longer a challenge for him.
Have him play top minutes. Have him take a leadership role. Have him go to the WJHC (imho, one of the best things you can do to develop a player).
There's nothing wrong with being methodical in player development.
And that's especially true of d-men. - Atomic Wedgie
Trade him to a team that will get into the playoffs, then you have something new for him to learn from

And Re Philadelphia Flyers: shouldn't there be a max. time for the LTIR? for example 2 years max.? - MaximusAurelius
and allow teams to buy them out?
if it's a long term injury which force the player to retire (pronger) them it should come off the cap.
Even if the signed the deal at the age of 35+
call it the medical buyout clause. |

Still can play in WJHC if he's on the leafs also.

I totally agree with you 2. I know a few NHL players, some forwards and some d men. The forwards always say, every move you used in Jr does not work in the NHL. The d men are bigger stronger and faster than the guys they played against in Jr. But it takes the d men a couple of years after Jr, for the most part, to develop the skills to step into the NHL. |

Personally, I think he was fired for not firing Ron Wilson soon enough.
My opinion though.. |

He was too outspoken and too much of a control freek, for the new owners. |

Any team can retain salary for 3 players in a trade on their cap at any one time

Leaf are done with buyouts, only guys you can buyout is the players that went to arbitration and Liles didn't,so good luck finding a team to take Liles but then again if MacT was able to trade Horcoff then NOnis should be able to do the same I hope. |

This is coming from a fan of the team who wont have a coach that doesn't speak French.

Could it be that Nonis played this Fraser scenario just like this. Forcing Fraser to file for arbitration so that it gave him another window of opportunity to orchestrate a buyout??
Interesting. - faceto27
Ya. You may be right. He certainly knows a hell of a lot more about wiggling around within the rules of the CBA than the majority of fans (myself OBVIOUSLY included). Interesting thought for sure. |

Im confident he will do lots of good for all 4 teams but just wasnt too impressed on his comments of taking down old Leafs pics from the ACC - when I go there next - will I expect to see pics of Orr and McLaren in the hallways? |
