Sooooooooooooooo............. who gets bought out?

If we can't find a taker for Liles, then pretty sure that JML is going to be bought out.

not this summer.

David Alter ‏@DavidAlter590 5m

With Leafs singing Fraser. 3 days from now their non-compliance buyout period will open for 48 hrs where they can buyout Liles if desired

Well Mr. Alter disagrees with me.

From what I can gather, the Leafs have a 48 hour window in which to exercise their 2nd buyout option due to the arbitration.

The CBA says that the team has 48 hours to do the buyout otherwise it is gone.

So we shall find out JML fate in the next 48 hours.

- faceto27

Ummm if they had had arbitration. 2 guys filed, both settled before hand. So no.

Not true. Doesn't matter that they settled beforehand. They still qualify for the buyout window. Any team that had PLAYER elected arbitration has that window.

Yes. But the Leafs feeder team the Ducks were still doing Burke favours.

True, but Liles is a d-man capable of 30-40 points with PP time. There's still a market for those, especially when it will cost nothing more than a poop pick.

So with 8 defensemen now signed. Is it a fait accompli that Riley is sent back to junior for another year?

Sure looks that way.

Oilers have the same situation. From an Oilers article.

Following the singing of Sam Gagner, Scott Howson explained that because Gagner had filed for arbitration that a second buy-out window would now be available to the Oilers. The wording in the CBA isn't very clear, but we've confirmed with Mr. Daly that this the case. For those interested in the nuts and bolts of why, Article 11.18 provides a starting point.

Liles' contract is a bitter pill.

Carter Ashton is not enough sugar.

Not even close.

I'm under the impression that that only opens for them if they had guys go to arbitration. maybe it does open just by the election of the arb.
