Yeah, I can't imagine how the Leafs are going to fill his 13:56 TOI/G, or his 9 points.
And he really stepped it up in the playoffs, recording 0 points during his 9:12 TOI/G.
Maybe with any old scrub from the Marlies?
Yeah, that would do it.
We'll be fine. - Atomic Wedgie
Problem is the guys you would expect (Ashton, D'Amigo, Biggs) are all 1 - 1.1 million dollars at the NHL level. Someone needs to be traded to even fit one of those guys into the lineup, and sign Kadri and Franson. |

According to the oddsmakers in Vegas the Canucks (16/1) and Oilers (20/1) are Canada's best shot at a Cup.
Flames worst at 100/1

I have no idea how training camp injuries affect the cap, but if they can't move Liles might waiting for injuries be the last hope to keep everyone? - awfside
Don't have to be under the cap until the day after training camp. |

You're undervaluing his role big time. Guys like him don't show up on the game sheet and they don't intend to, they aggravate and frustrate the other team.
I agree they'll be fine. But he was very effective at what he did and they will miss his style of game. - Juice

Not sure what you're saying here, i'm clueless about cap stuff. So an injury in camp to a 4-5M guy who's replaced by a 1M guy saves the day?

They can be 10% above the cap all training camp, as long as they are below the cap come the day after camp ends (before game 1 of the season) they're fine.
Jonas Siegel @jonasTSN1050 46m
Leafs can skate 10% above cap until the day after final day of training camp, at which point they'll have to fall under $64.3 million. |

Nope. You can sign potential UFA's as soon as it hits the 1 year mark.
Malkin,Letang and Kunitz all re-signed with 1 year remaining. They announced the Malkin signing before they were even allowed to. They just announced they "agreed to terms" He couldn't actually sign it officially until July 5th
We could of signed Kessel by now if we really wanted to. I don't think were going to force it yet, we'll see how it all plays out. - t_leafs21
So then back to an idea brought up here yesterday. Can't we sign Franson to a 1 yr 3m deal then follow immediately by a 4 yr 4.2 deal. That solves our cap Problem no? |

can a team acquire JML this year and then use a compliance buyout on him next summer before the window closes? |

Just realized that if the Leafs reup Kessel and Kadri, their top-6 is set in stone for the next 4 years or so. I know theres always the possibility of moving someone out in a trade but they'd have contractually committed a lot to this group up front. It looks alright on paper, but it seems like they are putting a lot of their eggs in one basket with this group. |

Its cause Franson wants 4.0 a year, and we only have 4.825 left to sign Kadri and Franson.
Something is going to have to give.
Well, after 4 long weeks, this is what we've come to
JVR(4.25) Bozak(4.2) Kessel(5.4,pending UFA)
Lupul(5.25) Kadri(RFA) Clarkson(5.25)
McClement(1.5) Bolland(3.375) Kulemin(2.8) - Whole 3rd line are pendings UFAs
Marlie?(550-800k) Colborne(600k,pending RFA) Orr(925k)
McLaren(700k)
Gunnarsson(3.15) Phaneuf(6.5,pending UFA)
Gardiner(1.16el,pending RFA) Franson(RFA)
Fraser(1.275) Ranger(1.0) - Pending UFA's
Liles(3.875) Holzer(788k)
Bernier(2.9)
Reimer(1.8,pending RFA)
Cap penalty via buyouts/retained salary: 2.5 ... That will be returned next offseason
Estimated capspace: 4.825 m
Safe to say we need to find a team for Liles. Stat. - t_leafs21
Remember Subban's bridge contract? $2.875 mill per?
That is what Kadri and Franson will both get.
When you have no arbitration rights and you break out in a shortened season you will get a raise but not some stupid Bogosian contract. who cares how much they want.
So Franson and Kadri will both get deals under 3 mill short term which is perfect for a team that has $4,895,833 mill left in cap space. |

this is what i found, can't find the regular buyout period dates
11.18 Ordinary Course Buy-Outs Outside the Regular Period. Clubs shall have the right to
exercise Ordinary Course Buy-Outs outside the regular period for Ordinary Course Buy-Outs in
accordance with Paragraph 13(c)(ii) of the SPC. Each Club shall be limited to no more than
three (3) such Buy-Outs outside the regular period over the term of this Agreement pursuant to
Paragraph 13 of the SPC. However, in the event that a Club has only one salary arbitration
hearing pursuant to Section 12.3(a) in a given League Year, such Club shall not be entitled to
exercise such an Ordinary Course Buy-Out outside the regular period. Moreover, a Club shall
not be entitled to exercise an Ordinary Course Buy-Out outside the regular period for: (i) any
Player who was not on the Club's Reserve List as of the most recent Trade Deadline, or (ii) any
Player with an Averaged Amount less than $2,750,000. The dollar amount of $2,750,000 set
forth in this Section 11.18 shall be increased on an annual basis at the same percentage rate of
annual increase as the Average League Salary, with the first such increase occurring based upon
a comparison of the 2014/15 Average League Salary to the 2013/14 Average League Salary. By
way of example, if the Average League Salary for the 2014/15 League Year has increased by ten
(10) percent from the Average League Salary for the 2013/14 League Year, then the figure of
$2,750,000 stated in Section 11.18, shall be increased by ten (10) percent to $3,025,000. |
