Can somebody explain to me why we would move Franson when we could just eat a million bucks off Liles' deal and trade him for a 7th rounder?

And if we moved Franson, we wouldn't be able to take back any roster players. We'd just flip him for prospects and fill his spot with a league minimum AHLer.

Sounds like a rather undewhelming rebuilding move for a team ready to take the next step forward.

But can we? I think we can/should all assume Nonis will try to entice a team by eating salary - even as much as 50% if necessary. It's quite possible though that nobody is interested in Liles on a 3 yr contract at any dollar amount.

i don't think it would be too bad an idea for the Leafs to get some picks for him. don't forget that you traded 2 seconds and 2 fourths this summer. i know that no single one of those picks were likely to be huge, but still, 4 picks...that can out a dent in your pipeline a year or two down the road.
