I think Phil will get about 8million

I agree.

The comparable in terms of "franchise player" would be Giroux's deal that will kick in next season at 8.275 for 8 years.

You have to think he's going to be in that high seven, pushing 8 range, which is roughly a 2 and a half million dollar raise.

For the good news, were getting 2.5 capspace back from Tucker,Armstrong buyouts and Bernier trade and the cap will most likely go up a bit.

Pretty sure if we take a DB vote here, betting odds say you lose every time.

Cool. That really bothers me? All bc I think Bozak is ok and Gardiner isn't. Awesome.

Good stuff! Now onto Kadri and Franson. Keep in mind there is no hurry as neither of these guys are going to arbitration.

If JML could be moved then we'd be in business but I think Nonis might have to get more creative than that.

***Compiance buy-outs are done. Regular buy-outs still exist.

- Njuice

Organization just shelled out a lot of money for nothing. They're not doing the same with JML.

I really hope we get Franson locked up for 3 more years. I just don't think that Reilly's gonna be ready in the near future, and honestly, Dion is garbage from the point. He simply can't get his shots through to the net.

Can't say the same for Franson.

Glad we settled with Fraser without going to arby; that can get ugly and I think Fraser's a good piece for near-term.

Franson, well, Nonis and the boys have obviously gone over numerous scenarios and what-ifs regarding cap space and they have a good idea who they want to be a part of this team, long-term.

I think Franson fits into that category: he's the right age group, is reliably offensively and has improved defensively along with a better physical game since Carlyle came onboard.

They'll get it done. Might end up burying Liles, and along with Holzer and Smith, this will free up over 7M:

3.5M Kadri
3.5M Franson
600K recall Brennan as the 7th D-man, which gives us a 21 man active roster and 35K in cap space.

Franson should get more than Kadri at this point. Kadri should get 3 million for two years

Both have played half a good season, but it'll be 3.5+/- for both of them; point is that burying Liles may be our only option if we can't find a trading partner, and even so, we'd have to retain salary for the length of the contract vs. burying him and using a compliance buyout in 2014.

Burying Liles only saves about 900k. You can trade him to another team and save more than that. Say you give him away in a trade at 1.5m and retain the rest you are still better off trading him. Only way JML goes to the Marlies is if no team thinks he's worth 900k.

Edit : and we have no compliance buyouts left.

Leafs have to get rid of Liles & his salary to make room for Franson & Kadri. Leafs don't need Liles. With Gardner ready for full time & Reilly on the horizon, we don't need Liles. Trade him for a 7th pick if that's al u can get, just get rid of him.

Franson has no leverage. Sign a one or two year deal at a team friendly cap hit and keep improving so Nonis has to give you the big bucks when you deserve it.

I REALLY want the Leafs to sign Franson & trade away Liles. So far I'm 2 for 2. I wanted Komi & Grabbo bought out. Now if Nonis can trade away Liles & his salary for a bag of pucks, I'll complete the hatrick.

That would be pretty rad, but I don't know if there's a taker. Carolina maybe? They seem to have no clue what they're doing. I agree with you though, trade Liles for a 7th, which is more a reflection of his contract and not his ability.

I agree with you I'm just beginning to become increasing worried about an offer sheet on Franson to really mess us up.

What do we do I someone offers 4.5 a year to Franson?

Then you take the draft picks.

NYI, FLA, OTT, BUF, COL, CAL, STL, NJ, PHO, WAS, CAR, NSH, ANA.

These are the teams who could afford that offer sheet as it stands. The bolded ones are the team who I believe will miss the playoffs and give you a good chance at a high 1st round pick.
