Nonis seems to constantly shoot himself in the foot, first he signs Gunnarsson at 3 mil per, obviously Franson is going to want more than him, since he's better. Then he signs Ranger at 1 million per, of course Fraser is going to want more than Ranger, since Ranger hasn't played in 3 seasons. He keeps setting the bar for what players can ask for at the negotiating table. Franson should be getting paid 3 million per, and Fraser 900K, while Gunnar should be 2.5 tops, and Ranger, the league minimum. Instead he has allowed these players to demand more.

You can't walk away from any award under 3.5m. Learn the rules before you start throwing around insults and dire predictions.

The Leafs can be up to 10% over the Cap until the last day of training camp. Neither Kadri or Franson have arbitration dates, so there's no real rush to sign them yet. We still have the 11th most Cap Space left...and that doesn't include Holzer's salary when he's on the Marlies.

Admit it...this little rant of your's was more about taking a shot at Nonis then actually the current RFA situation.

Fraser at 1.25 million is way too much for a #6 fringe Dman, especially for a guy who has struggled to even make the NHL over the last 5 seasons. It should be interesting to see what Nonis is going to do when Reilly surprisingly makes the team this year, or what he has in mind when he is on the team for sure next year.

I know, I'm speaking of Gunnarsson, Gardiner, Phaneuf, Franson....where would Reilly fit in on our top 4?

Gunner at 3 is fine. Ranger at 1 is fine.

Reilly shouldn't be in our top 4 next year either. He should be getting a soft little 10 minutes a night with some PP time.

Not to mention so much can happen with our roster between now and then.

Sens and Devils cannot offer sheet i believe. no first in 2014.

He should also check those teams that are good and notice that many of them own the very rfa's he listed.

Yeah, but Phaneuf is most likely going to be signed, Gunnarsson is signed for 3 years, Gardiner and Franson, I'm hoping are part of the team for the foreseeable future. So when Reilly makes the team next year, where does Gunnarsson fit in?

We don't know they did. That's YOUR assertion. Fraser opted for arbitration long before Gunnar's signing, and if he thought Ranger's 1m was a justification for asking for 2m then he's retarded. And Franson has been disgruntled since the day he was born. I have a feeling this guy will cause one contract headache after another during his career.

They're fine. Gunner played top line mins and got paid for it. Franson played sheltered mins.

Those contracts were fine.

In Franson's defense, this is the second straight year he's gone through this crap, in both seasons he started the season as a scratch without much justification. I'm actually surprised that Nonis would get Gunnarson done before Franson for these very reasons.

Only 3 of Franson, Phaneuf, Rielly and Gardiner will be on this team long term.

no point having 4 offensive Dmen (and yes, Phaneuf is also the top defensive dman, but he's the #1PP guy).

If they do sign Franson, then extend Phaneuf, they are likely trading either Franon or Gardiner the moment Rielly makes the NHL permanently (in a year or 2)

Where he has been for the couple years.

Why are you so sure Reilly makes it next year? Why do you want to force him into the top 4? Ease him in.

I think Nonis will go forward without #3 as his anchor.

Gunnar filed for Arbitration and Franson didn't. That pretty much set the order.

Gunnar would have gotten $4M in an arb award - he's the #2 on this team the last 3 years. And keeping him was pretty necessary. Need some d-first guys.

well, If Rielly isn't in top 4, he shouldn't be on the team. Ever.

much better playing 30 mins a night in AHL in 2014 than 10-12 mins with Leafs.
