This is coming from a fan of the team who wont have a coach that doesn't speak French.
Yeah. Go home. Discrimination isn't that cool. - Compeyson
The Habs have produced Julien, Vigneault and Therrian in the coaching ranks - not too bad - as 2 have been to the Finals recently |

Nonis seems to constantly shoot himself in the foot, first he signs Gunnarsson at 3 mil per, obviously Franson is going to want more than him, since he's better. Then he signs Ranger at 1 million per, of course Fraser is going to want more than Ranger, since Ranger hasn't played in 3 seasons. He keeps setting the bar for what players can ask for at the negotiating table. Franson should be getting paid 3 million per, and Fraser 900K, while Gunnar should be 2.5 tops, and Ranger, the league minimum. Instead he has allowed these players to demand more. |

I love our forwards, the goalies look to be a serious strength, but even with franson back, our D will be our downfall. Won't get past the 2nd round with that D corps |

I disagree here. Gunnar's body of work is so much bigger and better than Franson's it's a little premature to say Franson's better. I'm sure Nonis wishes he'd seen a full season of Franson's work before having to commit some serious cash to him. Either way...it appears Franson is just someone who wants every last dollar and maybe sees himself in a very flattering light.
Ranger was a UFA when he signed his deal...which was a very cheap one. Fraser, again, has a short season as his body of work and he's trying cash in on it. If he had tried this NEXT year he would be on the open market since the Leafs probably don't need him then.
I obviously don't know these guys, but they strike me as guys who would have taken these courses of action regardless of the Gunnar and Ranger signings. |

I'd stack up our defensive core against anyone's in the East. Our problems last year were our forwards and their defensive play and I think we got better in that area just by buying out Grabs. |

I somewhat agree with you, i think we need one more top 4 and we're set but the lack of the top 4 is a huge hole.

Which has been the case since the season ended. You think every team in the league has cap space but us?

Yeah...but I see Gunnar as much more than a bottom pairing guy. I look at our top 4 of Dion/ Gunnar and Gardiner/Franson as potentially better than anyone else's in the East. Then with Fraser/Ranger on the bottom pair it's deeper too.
Take a look at other teams' defensive pairings...most struggle from 4-6. |

RFA'S still left that are decent players: pietrangelo, hodgson, runblad, cowen, stephan, henrique, johansson, boedker.
St Louis: 8.8M they are good
Buffalo: 10.5M they are good
Senz: 11M, they are beyond good
Devils: 7.8M they are good
Rangers: 3.3M left (they are kind of (frank)ed)
Caps: 5.6M they are good.
Coyotes: 6.9M they are good
So for the players that most teams have to sign to contracts that are RFAS they have more than enough cap to sign their key players except the Rangers. So basically the leafs and rangers are (frank)ed at the moment. So you make no sense. - Mapleleafs_91
Sens and Devils cannot offer sheet i believe. no first in 2014. |

Fraser at 1.25 million is way too much for a #6 fringe Dman, especially for a guy who has struggled to even make the NHL over the last 5 seasons. It should be interesting to see what Nonis is going to do when Reilly surprisingly makes the team this year, or what he has in mind when he is on the team for sure next year. |

I also don't mind gunnar, i'm just saying to get to the next level, as in to the confernce finals etc. we need that next top pairing guy. I think our forwards and goalies are definately above alot of teams.
Hope gunnar bounces back from the health issues that bogged him down. If we can't sign another top guy, the only way to lower Dion's minutes is to throw Gardiner/franson on the top PP which I am fine with.
My bet is Liles goes back to Colorado for a case of Coors banquet beer, since we can't buy it in Canada |
