It's not Montreal smoked meat. It's smoked meat. No one makes it like they do in Montreal so the designation only serves to denigrate the food. You don't say Italian pizza. You say New York or Chicago pizza, because Italy does it the best.

Snowdon Deli is pretty good.

But my favourite take-home smoked meat is from Le Biftèque (half-restaurant, half-butchery). There's one near Dorval airport, but the main one is in Quebec City. I'd always stop there with my father when coming back from Saguenay and buy a big piece of smoked meat. I liked it better than Schwartz'.
