Mackinnon was the #1 overall pick. Henrique is such a stud he got passed over by 29 teams. Give me a break. 2 goals. Let them go. Devils fans talk about Rangers fans living in 1994. That was 2 years ago. Doesnt make up for his lackluster season last year. - Kovaltron
Shea Weber was also passed over the 1st round. How many times did teams pass over Lidstrom? Your draft position has no bearing on your value once you break into the NHL. Also, Henrique wouldn't be the first nor the last player to have a sophmore slump. He was still on pace for 20 goals in a full season. |

Again because you just are not getting it. I did not compare the to in a talent sense or a value sense. I compared them in being unproven remember when you said trading an unproven player for Vanek. I am stated Mackinon is unproven I am not comparing the two you are. I am saying if you are talking about trading Henrique you do it for a young proven talent. Try and keep up here as I say the type of trade you include Henrique is the type of trade that you add pieces to make it happen because you don't trade him for a player of the same value or someone 30 SO you are trading him in a package for a player with higher value a lot higher to be exact or you don't trade him at all. |

Everyone acts like Henrique had a terrible year last year. 11 goals in 42 games is not too shabby, especially considering how few goals the team scored as a whole last year.
Henrique should be a very important part of this team going forward. He isn't going to dazzle people offensively or put up a 40 goal season or anything like that, but I see him in the future as a sort of Patrice Bergeron type player: leader, solid but not insane numbers, defensively responsible, clutch in the playoffs, etc.
We're not just valuing him on 2 OT playoff goals (also don't forget the GWG in game 4 against the Kings). He had a fantastic rookie year and honestly didn't really have that bad of a year last year which everyone's been calling a sophomore slump. He's a top 2 center on our team now and very well may be our top center in the future.
Lock him up long term. I don't even care if we overpay him a bit. I'm sick of losing everybody. |

You do realize there is a substantial difference in the amount of leverage a UFA and RFA have, right? |

I'd say 3 years/10.5M max. Henrique is a great penalty killer, excellent defensive forward with strong intangibles. Even if he turns out to be a 40-point or 45-point guy he's valuable for the intangibles. |

Kinda pissed Hockey's Future has us ranked 28th in the league in organizational strength. I think considering a lot of the guys we've recently graduated, we still have a decent amount of kids coming up with promise.
Even when you just look around from team to team on that site, it looks like we have move 7.0 and 7.5 guys than a lot of teams. And that is before this year's draft class has even been added. Not to mention most of our guys are already at the pro level, its not like they are just starting juniors.
...conspiracy! |

I agree. And lots of league sophomores did little to distinguish themselves. Landeskog, who was hurt. Couturier. Nugent-Hopkins. Guys with big upside. Even Larsson has enormous upside that remains untapped.
Not saying Henrique has the same upside these guys do but I could see a consistent 45 to 50 point guy with terrific intangibles. I'd be very happy with that.

I think you're looking at it from a narrow base. I don't think anyone is calling him a stud or suggesting he should be receiving star money. But he's the kind of piece that just about any team needs when competing for a championship. He does valuable things away from the puck. To single him out when much of the team underperformed to me is just not the way to view him individually. |

To get a comprehensive list of all 30 teams prospects, you'd probably need a team of 30+ scouts, possibly more considering the wide range of leagues the prospects play in. Considering me or you could get a job writing there with no background in scouting and no access to watching said prospects, it shows how much stock we should put in to these rankings. I think hockeysfuture is something to read when you want to feel good about your team's prospects and nothing more. |

Its true, they've put out a lot of stuff that is very amateur-ish. I need more solid hockey sites to read at work. Not that Eklund is by any means solid, but I enjoy bickering with you all about gloom and doom on a daily basis |

Puckdaddy has a "puck headlines" article every weekday which is just a compilation of articles from various websites and there are usually a couple worth reading. ILWT also writes some decent devils articles. If your looking for more stuff about prospects I would recommend the other site that Todd writes for. http://thehockeyguys.net/category/nhl/ |

funny I seem to remember this kid named brodeur getting past over by 19 teams, and the real funny part is calagary traded up to take trevor kidd in front of him? |
