A lot of people all over NA reported it that's why everyone says it.

It was more of, "if I'm not the starter, I want to be traded"... which is different than asking for a trade as the number 1. It was the whole Schneider situation that created the trade talk, so it wasn't like Luongo requested a trade, it was more a mutual understanding between team and player that a trade was the best option.

Now things are different, and he will come to camp and be back to the Vezina type goalie we all know and love. Sochi is on his mind, as is winning the Cup and proving all the haters wrong.

I'm not hating on Lu, he is a great tender. He has had mental issues while playing...just look at the cup finals against Boston and getting "benched" for a game. But when he is on he is one of the best.

Understood that Schneider created the trade talk b/c Gillis anointed Schneider as the starter which led Lu to want and request a trade b/c he is too good to be the backup. Things are absolutely different now since Schneider was dealt but to assume that "all is fine and dandy" with Lu is a little short-sighted if you ask me. He had absolutely checked out of Vancouver as evidenced by the fact that Gillis spent 2 years trying to trade him. Just look at the post deadline presser from Lu with his defeated look on his face and being asked why he wasn't traded and he comes back with a 3 word answer..."my contract sucks". Now with no warning or for that matter very little inclination that it even could happen he stays and Cory goes. It's not easy to just "turn the light on" after spending the past 2 years not engaged to Vancouver. He's a professional and will play in Vancouver this year. But ask yourself this...what if he isn't the same player he was before? What if he struggles? Physically he will want to play better but mentally (if he wasn't able to "turn it on") he certainly won't be able to if he struggles. All I'm saying is it's not the rosy picture you or Gillis want to paint. There's a reason Lu hasn't spoken publicly since Cory was dealt. Just remember that one of the "haters" he is trying to prove wrong is his own GM who spent the better part of 2 years trying to trade him. Thus his mental dilemma and subsequent silence

I was one of the first Canucks fans here saying trade Luongo... I changed my tune and said it wouldn't be that bad if we traded Schneider, as the return was clearly more. This past year I became an even bigger Luongo fan, as he matured and often made fun of himself through social media. I think his silence is well timed, and he will be ready to rock and roll come training camp.

He may have checked out, but now with everything behind him, and a new coach, I think he will surprise a lot of people this year. Personally I don't think AV handled the goalie situation very well thoughout his tenure as Canucks coach. Torts knows what it's like to have a stud goalie, I think he will be a huge benefit to Luongo this season.

Two years abuse by the fans? You don't know what you're talking about. I agree with everything else you stated but come on, the fans still cheered hard for Lou during the past two years. Blame ownership first and MG second but the fans get a pass on this one. Lou has been treated quite well by the Canuck fans.

Wow, a few fans (yes few, could barely hear that) gave him the bronx cheer.

You are stretching pal, Canucks fans never got on Luongo, and actually cheered him when he replaced Schneider in the playoffs.

That was better?

They cheered Schneider on, what do you expect? A goalie gets pulled and it's a big deal for the fans to cheer the new goalie on? Come on, this hate you have for the Canucks is borderline clinical.

Like Hawks fans wanting Quennville fired when they were down 3-1 to the Wings?

I was simply responding to my opinion that Gillis signed Lu to a contract he was stuck with.Time proved that to be true. I also made the point that in my opinion the Fans have been hard on Luongo. You say they have supported him through thick and thin

We can agree to disagree on that.

One final question

If Lu was an unrestricted free agent now does he ever sign on with the Canucks?
I think not.

Gillis is certainly hoping that your post is true as he has left himself and the Nucks organization with no other choice. Lu is a great goaltender but with his contract he was and still remains untradeable. Gillis' whole "this was the plan all along" message is laughable. He cut bait trying to trade Lu and took the best available Cory deal from outside the division.

Personally I think Gillis is stupid to not take the best deal regardless of who the trade partner is. If Lu is as world class as everyone in Vancouver thinks he is, then why does it matter who Cory is playing for b/c Lu should be able to beat anyone? Does Cory playing in NJ affect Lu in Vancouver? To me it affects Lu no more than Cory playing in Edmonton or Calgary. With the new schedule format and every team playing each other there is no escape from the eventual matchup against Cory in a different uniform, so what difference is a few games vs a few less games?

I think everyone who watches hockey agrees that Lou is a solid goalie, it's his contract that made him untradeable. Anyone taking on the deal is left with those cap hits at the end if/when he retires. It's a punishment for teams that signed those giant long term deals with the BS years tacked on at the end. I thought everyone knew this when the CBA was released?

Same goes for Brad Richards, which is why the NYR were rumored to buy him out. They know that they won't be able to offload that contract. Anyways, Van appears to have their master plan fall apart and depending on how they fare next year will determine if Lou is bought out.

I'm more curious about these Ryan miller rumors. I don't know how you give away a world class goalie for a rebuild, unless he wants out. The goalie buyer market is very thin right now

lol....Sochi, ya...louango, price, crawford, holby or smith could win Sochi with Canada's stacked line-up. But a CUP...hahahahahahaha.....you are TOO funny!!!
