You make a lot of money, Mez, so yes, you're still a Flyer.

Guys who made an immediate impact for the Flyers IMHO:

Fred Shero - taught em how to work and how to win
Dave Schultz - made them the Bullies as much as anyone
Bill Barber - played like an all star as a rookie
Bernie Parent (2nd stint starting in 73) - dominant from day 1
Mark Howe - settled the entire team down defensively
Mike Keenan - lit a fire under the youngest team in the league
Ron Hextall - re-lit the fire that Keenan had set
Eric Lindros - built the Wells Fargo center, was an impact player from 1st shift
John Leclair and Eric Desjardins - completely turned the team around
Ken Hitchcock - brought discipline and hard work to a team in bad need of it
Paul Holmgren (as GM starting in 2007) - completely turned around the team in less than 1 year
Chris Pronger - made everyone on the ice better, took the D to a new level

So you're saying that players are only motivated by job security and only do as much as will guarantee them their current spot in the lineup?

I'm sure that's true in a good number of cases, but Giroux doesn't strike me as one of those guys that the coaches constantly need to light a fire under to get them to play at the level they're capable of (hello Hartsy). He also seems to live a pretty low-key off-ice life, so the Mike Richards factor isn't really there.

By all accounts, the kid is self-motivated, genuinely hard-working, and a coach's dream to work with.

In my opinion, a player's off ice life should be left out of it. None of us know what Giroux is doing in his spare time. There is no dedication or work ethic issue that is apparent with Giroux, just as there wasn't with Mike Richards.

He went from Goat, to over achieving an over achieving AHL backup goalie, back to goat.
