I'd give a slight edge to Brownie over Wilson. Brownie was a more powerful man but Wilson had tremendous balance and quickness. I saw Wilson close-up in street clothes while he was playing. He had a face like Jody from the 60's sit-com Family Affair. Had a shock of red hair and was pretty tall. He was listed at 6'3'' 210lbs. I believe the height but there is no way he was 210. He was like a bean pole. I understand muscle weighs heavy but he looked much lighter than advertised. The thing that amazed me about him was the way he handled bigger and apparently stronger players.

Meltzer-
do the flyers have any interest in a player such as cody franson?
obviously flyers are lacking D-man who can move the puck. Toronto seems willing to trade him for the right return. is that a possible move for philly? if so what would we give up? im assuming a mid level prospect and a 2nd or 3rd rounder? or am i undervaluing franson? I am not worried about the salary cap as i think we all know one of the expensive Dmen(Mesz/grossman) will probably be traded if not given away for a bag of hockey pucks(simply for cap purposes). and pronger will be on LTIR.

Brown's advantage was his reach and the size of his hands. I may give him the edge, but Wilson's at least right there with him.

Brown had a left handed hammer.

He gets my nod as the Flyers' Number 1 fighter of all time.

They just answered their hitting woes by signing a mid-rotation/long reliever from Cuba for $60 mil.

Saw Wilson fight many times and saw Brashear fight many times. Couldn't say who would win but to say that Wilson would get smoked is questionable. Don't remember Behn losing many. Brashear was good and his theatrics were entertaining.

Aside from fighting Cote, Brashear never had the KO power than Brown/Wilson had. He was more of the grab/tug/quick shots/tie up/twist/land 1 shot kinda guy. Wilson/Brown were the stand back and throw types. Not a knock on Brashear, but no way he would be able to trade and take with those 2 monsters.

Right now, the Flyers have 7 (if healthy) top-6 defensemen. Unless it's Meszaros and a mid-tier prospect or 4th+ round pick moving for him, I don't see the reason to add one more.

Agree. A guy who wouldn't be out of place on the list is Mel Bridgeman. He was pretty quick and strong as an ox.

As a tie-in, I wish we would have had Montreal Brashear and Calgary McCarthy. They were both good here, but they weren't the same terrors they were on their old teams. But I do love the McCarthy beating of Reid Simpson.

i fully agree we have a depth of dmen who can play on the third line. but do you really want to count on 2 of the following: gustafson, mesz, grossman, gervais, and bourdon occupying the 3rd d pair? Mesz is beyond overpaid when you take into account his injury history.
both kimmo and streit are old as dirt and i worry about their durability, as well as bourdon's durability due to his concussions.
May i ask who you want to be the dmen/point players on the powerplay would be? i think franson fits in as an up and coming dman(only 26) with offensive ability and led toronto in Dman points last year.
this would also possibly make coburn expendable in a trade for a roster player or a solid prospect.

Can't disagree. Rinaldo reminds me of Stan Jonathon. Neither guy was big. Rinaldo is a better body checker than Jonathon was but Jonathon fought super heavyweights consistently and usually won.

Once again, cause I'm bored. The top 10 fighters in Flyers history
1. Behn Wilson - just frankin scary dude, for you younger fans try to find a clip of any of his fights, his punch was awesome and he pretty much never lost.
2. Dave Schultz - perhaps the nastiest on the list, terrorized the league in the mid 70s.
3. Dave Brown - a lefty with a huge reach and a mean streak a mile wide
4. Paul Holmgren - could knock guys out just with his glare!
5. Eric Lindros - very few wanted to tangle with Big E.
6. Donald Brashear - could throw with the best of em
7. Craig Berube - The cheif could stand toe to toe with anyone and never backed down.
8. Dave Hoyda - wasn't with the club long, but man could he fight. Too bad he couldn't play a lick!
9. Jack MacIlhargey - Big, rugged and mean. Prototypical 70s Flyer.
10. Rick Macleish - Having the hawk on this list will surprise some, but man could he go. Rick didn't fight much, but when he did, he NEVER lost a fight.

Thoughts?

I think it would take considerably more to acquire Franson.
