you've got Jagr down for 19 goals, I really doubt he hits that mark. He didn't score 1 in the playoffs. Clowe at 17 goals? Very very optimistic. Concussion risk and only what, 3 goals last year? double it for a full season and you have 6, say we double that again that gives him 12 and if he misses a sizeable chunk of the season I think he drops again from there.

Not going to nitpick on the rest, most look reasonable but those two stand out as best case scenarios and I'd be surprised if even one of the two hit those numbers.

I think Clowe's estimate could be high end on my part. Though in fairness the guy did score 17 or more each of the previous 4 seasons, so it's not impossible he could do it. Playing with the Rangers he played more like himself until he got hurt. If he stays healthy he could conceivably do it here. If he does miss time, that means someone else on the chart probably scores more or a player acquired via trade does, thus moving the unnamed up over 12. If I'm off by 15 and we score 200 I still feel pretty good about our chances. If it's more like 180 then I'll be concerned. I also feel like if a slow offense start takes place a trade to get another piece is likely anyway. One way or another I think we're scoring between 200 and 215. Which should be plenty for a team with the Devils' style and composition on the defensive end and in net.

Jagr scored 16 in the shortened season last year, and you have to remember with his time playing overseas he played in over 100 games, many in a compressed fashion. He's one of the best conditioned guys in the league and did wonders for Claude Giroux two seasons ago. Hopefully he has the same effect here.

How can you tell me not to base it on one season when he had 3 concussions, slowed down and couldn't shoot? I would say if he stays healthy, which is a massive concern, he scores 12 max, which is a heck of a lot more than he did last season and I still think that very generous, if I had to put money on it I'd pick 8 goals or less if he's injured.

As far as Jagr, I'd say 12-15 would be pretty generous given Jersey's defensive system and (not trying to start anything) lack of high flying offense. Keep in mind, Jagr had 14 of his 16 goals with Dallas and only 2 with Boston over the last 11 games of the regular season. I would expect him to contribute less this year.

I'm not taking shots at the Devils, I'm pointing at specific players. And just as a question, what is the bolded section of your quote referring to? I don't care how many goals a Devils player scores this season, I'm just looking at the predictions someone else made.

The Devils don't play a defensive system. Its also pretty hypocritical that you use only clowe's bad half season yet you separate Jagrs and use only his boston production.

Moulson would need to be seriously overpayed by another team to leave Johnny T

I feel like he should definitely stay. Isles have to spend their money on someone afterall anyway, they have the most cap room of anyone. Maybe 4.5/year for 3 years extension? That'd be ideal but the way GM's are overpaying these days he might want to hold out to hit the market in this weak free agent class.

great now since you said the devils can be in the playoffs we will have herds of isles fans and some ranger fans come in and say not a chance, and then a buffalo fan or 2 saying too old and slow top 5 pick oh wait

lou always finds ways to make sure the devils are competitive and for the most part always in the playoffs, i have a feeling that he knows what he is doing and will "surprise" some

Love to bust balls but you never can count the Devils out. They always exceed expectations. When everyone expects them to fall flat they surprise. There is not a more "team first" mentality in the NHL.

Regarding Jagr, I'm not only using his Boston production, I'm comparing Dallas to New Jersey. In Dallas Jagr was given a lot more ice time, and Dallas was a higher scoring team even with trading away Jagr and Morrow with 1/4 of the season left. New Jersey isn't an offensive power house and doesn't play a high scoring game. Jagr wore down last year as well and is another year older.

As far as Clowe, I'm factoring in his entire season, not sure why you think I'm only using the San Jose part of the year. He scored 3 goals and had as many concussions in 1 year. How many guys do you know of who suffered multiple concussions in one year to come back and have an excellent year the next? He's slowed down, his shooting percentage dropped into the toilet and again, he's coming from a team in San Jose and even the Rangers that were able to score a lot more goals than the Devils.

factor all of that in, and the odds of him scoring more than 12 goals are extremely low.

The devils didn't play a high scoring game because no one was putting the puck in the net. They were one of the best possession teams and had no shortage of chances. The devils played a majority of the game in the opponents end so Jagr shouldn't be effected by lack of scoring opportunities not to mention he's never needed other to create chances for him.

The hypocritical part is how you tried to use prorated numbers for clowe yet Jagr's 15 goals last year makes 19 such an outlandish estimate.

Also, shooting percentages have proven to regress back to norms, either from high or low compared to career averages. Clearly something was not working in SJ as he started to produce well in NY. I think its more than likely we see a bounceback year. How much? Who knows.
